If anyone has this take a look, & prepare to be disappointed!

The vocal pack is 44.1kHz 192kbs mp3s upsampled to floating point 48kHz WAVs!

They clearly state on their website promotion as the top selling point, that they are shipping 21.9GB of Vocals, further down they state that they are 32bit 48kHz .wav files.
But they dont state that they started as 16bit 44.1kHz 192Kbps mp3s

    Look at them:

What a stinking pile of shit, who bought it and wants their money back?

I didnt know ghosthack was a couple of teenagers who dont understand digital audio formats, but judging by the name i shouldn't be surprised:sad:

The whole 22.0GB pack should be just 1.30GB in its proper format of 192kbps

@Flare should know about it too, but I believe he delivered exactly what ghosthack is selling,

Hey @Flare @DECiBELLE @FANTASTIC yo, buddies, ghosthack/true samples/loopmasters/wavsupply/splice etc are 90% of the time a pile of shit anyway even if they arent fake useless lossy quality.

When there is Futurephonic, Sample Magic, Zennhiser etc, why is the shit stuff even being bought by anyone, nevermind ending up on warez sites? isnt that a massive waste of someones money? Thanks :like:

How does a 30 day money back clause work with a sample library? are they just expecting everyone to want their 200 or 60 euro back?
    crazy..
I "promise" i have deleted it and wont use or share it, now can i please have my money back? :)

Rather convoluted new meaning to the word "free" dont you think,
When the product isnt even worth downloading for free.

If you prove to them their source wasn't justified of being made into 32Bit, they can't dispute it!

How did you work out what the original sample rate and bit depth was?

This pack was supplied to me by one of my suppliers, Not sure why Ghosthack would do that. Seems to me they are becoming the new Cymatics but instead of recycling sounds they are downgrading the quality. And for the money guarantee, they will probably just send store credit as I'm sure they won't refund that much money (Look at the prices of all their packs).

It makes no sense as the supplier would go to the effort of downgrading the samples to then upsample them.

@Smoove Grooves i would never have given ghosthack money in the first place so its cool, but some poor soul starting out might easily.

@Dave1987 The sample rate by at what stage the high spectrum is sharply cut, I cant tell the original bitdepth tbh but my statement is fair in that if the original bitdepth was 16bit it would be just as good as the samples are very loud and unprofesh in that respect too

@Flare Cheers for the reply, now i see how they keep the money, quite sneaky.. Its a shame becuase there were one or two good packs from ghosthack before, like cymatics they are just selling out & clogging up the market now

Also - a lot of the loops have BIG spaces of silence, 50% often, nice extra padding there ghosthack:wink:

Its gonna take a few more buckets of soviet coal burning in a furnace somewhere to provide the energy for those worthless extra 20.70GBs to customers

Ah ok, thanks and yeah that makes sense from your observation. The orchestral elements in there sound awful also and very MIDI like the performances. It's all very strange.

    @Illadelph

I feel like you're being a bit too harsh. I don't think you can generallize loopmasters and splice to be "a pile of shit anyway". There's great content on there. I can't judge the technical quality of it but I've seen and heard good packs on these platforms.

Very disappointed in Ghosthack though for this upsampling of mp3s, what are they thinking?
Also what's the deal with Cymatics?

It's hard to know if the sample rate was 44.1 or 48kHz when the files are obviously sharply low-passed at 16-17kHz [what MP3 codecs do...]. but the bit depth can be determined from the silent parts of the samples. If the noise is at -96dBFS that means a 16-bit file. 24-bit files have noise at about -110 or less dBFS depending on the quality of the audio interface ADs. Dithered 24-bit files always have noise below -100dBFS.

Look at op's picture in first post!
Easy to find out with many tools.

Yeah, I was just wondering how the OP worked it out. Obviously part of MP3 compression means losing the high end, but bit depths I find harder to judge to make an accurate assumption so was just curious.

My point makes perfect logical sense. You cant tell what the original bitdepth of a wav was after lossy conversion to mp3.

but IF in fact the original recorded audio was at a bitdepth higher than 16, It has then obviously then been converted to lossy mp3, otherwise to produce the same high stop they would have to have downsampled the wav format BELOW 44.1kHz, that is even dumber than what i am concluding, a wav-mp3-wav conversion.

And, the maximum bitdepth for an mp3 is about 16, while the max samplerate is higher, so it has to have gone from UNKNOWN BITDEPTH --> [equivalent of 16Bit] MP3 around 192kbps --> 32Bit floating point WAV

interesting, hmm yea i thought bit depth could maybe be figured out by examining the noisefloor.. go ahead, if you want but ive already sentenced this one to a life term in the recycling bin, no parole!!

Well, yes my general style is "a but to harsh" lol,

But i do find loopmasters to be total shit, they were different years ago its an old sample label, but these days im not keeping a single LM thing that pops up for download.

Splice, yes you are right there are a couple of good packs there too, as many artists get to do their own packs, mostly a few good vocal packs.
But they generally drip feed it like RARE percussion, much is totally medicore within, split them up into miniscule little packs and drip feed them.
When there is a "LOOPS" folder, and in that a specific category folder, and within that there is ONE little loop wav file... wtf?

Nothing at all like a Zenhiser release or a Vengeance release\

Btw, cymatics do the same kinda sample scams but they were never good and started off being a scam, although i have seen a few big producers using their wavetables
