i agree with your thought, i was thinking the same too for years ... Royal compressor, MJUC, tranquilzr G2, etc have the autogain built in.
but i bought the letimix autogain plugin already, it saves the day

use TBPro Audio's AB_LM.
Will make any chain gain-matched (as per ITUBS1770-3)

But maybe that is a good call, as is LetiMix GainMatch, so OP doesn't need to ask for plugins that have it!

 

But every plugin should implement auto gain match.
Like Pro Q3 has implemented, Izotope has implemented.

I suggested AB_LM because along with Perception, it is quite reliable. I checked Letimix but there were some issues, eg Crashes, not gain matching properly ( I checked with 2 Izotope Insights, one before letimix and one after leti mix says, it has gain matched).

I use AB_LM! Never heard of LetiMix until today.
OP was asking for plugins that have it, rather than a tool to do it.
So maybe your answer is the ultimate, was my point.

Oh yes, auto-gain is a really great feature and I'm a fan of it since I used Magnus' NyquistEQ in a mix for the first time. There are people who don't like it, but I can't understand why. It really helps with EQ-ing, but especially with compressing and limiting, so you can hear nicely what the bloody thing is doing to your drum bus, or a mix. I like to be able to hear those transients disappearing just to the point I consider sounding nice.

I'm all for it in every plugin. Shame Voxengo plugins don't have that feature. I'd love to have it in Marquis Compressor, Elephant, and HarmoniEQ, oh and CurveEQ. As I understand it, it is actually not that easy to implement it. What weighting to use, for example? I'm a fan of C weighting, or A.

C weighting and A weighting is more or less related to SPL meters (or dBSPL measurements of sound materials). A being closely inverse of 60 Phon curve and C being closely inverse of 80 Phon curve of Robinson-Dadson (Revised version of Fletcher-Munson) curve.

For loudness and loudness based auto gain(our ear only understands loudness and not mathematical RMS values. Loudness is basically, weighted RMS), use LUFS ( which may be called ITU-R BS 1770-4 standards or EBU R128 standard) as the AES have agreed upon that standard.
For fast transient based percussive sounds (eg percussion, drums, metal hits etc), you can use Momentary (400 ms) preferably (you may use short term as well but for really percussive sounds short term values can fool you) and for non percussive sounds (eg Synth, Strings), you can use Short term (3000 ms) LUFS.

Also, it is not that hard to implement, but many manufacturers don't just to keep the Skeuomorphism.

Err, the question is auto gain what? Peak, RMS, VU, LUFS m, s, or i?

ATME, FF compressor, TDR Nova, Klanghlem IVGI und SDDR do not work. Even if the first two have an Auto Gain button, that doesn't say anything about its functionality.

 

Auto Gain based on Peak, RMS, VU is just non sense, because our ear more or less works as per the ITU-R BS 1770-4 or EBU R128 standards.
Peak, RMS and VU all are mathematical values and has no weightage (frequency wise) applied on them.
This is why earlier autogain versions in some plugins suck.
Auto Gain in actuality should be done based on either LUFS-m or LUFS-s (Set by the user).
LUFS-i is for broadcast people and Loudness police (like Spotify, Youtube, Itunes etc)

 

All Meldaproduction plugins have Auto Gain Compensation. Don't know what metric use.

 

Nope, not to me, it's what I prefer, at least when working digital.

 

No matter whether you're using digital or analog or anything, psycho-acoustics will not change from medium to medium and psycho-acoustics do not work based on our personal preferences either.

The whole point of auto gain match is to match the perceived loudness, before and after the processing or processing chain, so that our hard-wired brains do not take loudness boost as a cue for better sound. That is the whole point of AB_LM or Perception or Pro-Q's Auto gain Match or this LetiMix or any Autogain algorithm.


So, Auto gain based on peak is just non sense, because peak (plus no weightage whatsoever) is not how we perceive sound.

I never said so and once would have been enough for me.

 

Melda makes a free plugin called MAGC that does this. It makes every plugin have auto gain.

If you are an ableton user Volume buddy is the best I’ve found that does this. It uses LUFS and has a hold button once you dial in your settings.

Auto gain should be an option only. There are times I need it and times I don't, I want the OPTION to use it when needed.

 

replace -uto with -i in auto.. every plugins should be.. #heheh #mymixsuxs

 

You can find EXTERNAL auto gain VST. For free.
Include it in a virtual rack and it works with any plugin.
