I just feel the need to share this experience here.

Yesterday I drove to work with my bike, but because it rained earlier the streets where wet. I drove to fast in a traffic circle, the wheels of my bike slipped away and I fell. I glided like 5 or 6 meters over the street. Luckily nothing to serious happend to me, but thats not what this post is about.

About 3 cars witnessed my accident, and noone stopped to look at me. I mean I could have been seriously injured, I was lucky that I landed on my site. But the three cars just didnt care. Before I leaved the place about 10 other cars drove by, only one person stopped to look if Im fine, or if I may need help. Only one. About 50 meters away there was an old man, and then a woman with a dog came by. They just stood there, stared at me while I was getting up from the ground, pick up pieces from the street. What da fuck? Why didnt they come and look after me? Thats the first thing I would have done, look if the person is alright. But they just waited till I was gone, then continued their walk.

It's not I got beaten up by some Skin heads, in that situation I would at least have understood why people hadnt the courage to help. But it was only me, no danger, just a person who may have needed some help. I can absolutly NOT understand why all these people behaved like that...

So what do you think? Whould you have helped me? Can you understand why nobody cared?

Unfortunately that's the mind-state the majority of people are in these days. Everyone is pre-occupied doing nothing completely ignorant of the real world around them. The people who came by and just stood there probably take the cake though. It's like: Durrrrr, how do we respond to this real-life situation? I know! Let's just stand here and stare like idiots!

I'd like to think that I would have stopped to help, strange thing is, I still have no idea how to turn on the hazard lights in any car I've ever driven.

To be fair, cyclists aren't exactly popular with motorists, particularly where i live, so I'm not surprised you didn't get much sympathy!

It's sad that no one helped you. There was once a time when many people were considerate and helpful. :-/ I most certainly would've stopped to make sure you alright had I come across/near your path. I'm glad you're safe and ok.

    Aww! Someone needs a hug!

    Did you wear your helmet?

I probably would have laughed first then asked if you needed an ambulance.

But really, if you looked healthy and young, wtf. It was a bicycle crash. Get over it, how many people have died in a bicycle crash not involving any cars?
Most people thought you were fine, just a bicycle crash dude. Go home and have mommy kiss your bruises. So, if you looked healthy and young, I probably would have just laughed. But, if you looked old, handicapped, or misfortunate, I might consider stopping to see if you were alright after I was done laughing.

P.S. Just cause something is funny, doesn't mean I don't care. Like I said, depends on situation if I would help.

I once saw a guy trying to drive a motorcycle, showing off in front of some girls, in an apartment complex as I was driving by. He drove about five feet, then fell right over.
Do you think I should have helped him and taught him how to ride a motorcycle? Or, do you think his image suffered enough in front of his girls? Laughing about it did just fine for me, and I'm sure that dude was fine.

I believe every car driver should be made to use bicycles and motorbikes before being allowed to use cars, the experience will make them better drivers. I have been involved in accidents with cars using both bicycles and motorbikes and every time I heard the excuse "sorry mate, I didn't see you", thanks for the broken bones and months of painful recovery ... :snuffy:

@Xsze: Well maybe its the city... I used to live in a village, people where more kind there, always greeded everyone, even if I didnt know them. Different in the city, wouldnt have guessed its the same when it comes to helping people.

@tater_one: I dont really get your statement. I didnt pose or anything, I just had an accident. But just for the record: I properly wouldnt have laughed at the guy, and depending on how far away I would have been and how many people would have helped him, yeah, I would have checked if hes okay.

As far as driving ability goes, that goes for cyclist too. I live in Daytona Beach where at least 20 bikers die every bike week. I have seen it happen countless times. Not just bikers. Drivers too. Riding in people's blind spot. If you are a good driver stay out of people's blind spot and you're less likely to get hit. There is some statistic about motorcycle crashes, like 99 percent are driver error on motorcycle driver's part. They are always riding people's asses, and staying in the blind spot, weaving in and out of traffic.

I was just proving a point depends on situation and circumstances. Most people have to work or they will starve.

I have never driven in other vehicles blind spots, but I probably had good training, if you can not see the driver in their mirrors, they CAN NOT see you. All my bumps have been with idiots pulling out in front of me :excl:

Well this happened a few months ago when people just was walking by when Lee Rigby was getting attack. so people are not going to be worried about some falling off there bike.

Its very sad society we live in today.

P.s. you rode your bike not drove your bike

People in general don´t pay much attention to others these days. Story seems to be like this: Get a good job, make a family, buy a house, get a car - perhaps a dog and be happy!

Your accidence in that round-about prolly provoced those car-driving people!!! If they stayed out of their cars to help you, they prolly thought you was able/ready to kill them........ or they should start their expensive smart phone so they could require some help for you!

    Short story:
Help yourself, and don´t give a damn about others!

Its a pity, and I hope it will change over the comming years!

    Hope you´re well!

In order to get the reaction you wanted you would have to have been seriously injured for someone to stop and see how you were. But even thats not a guarantee now a days. You just have to believe in that you would do the right thing if you witnessed something like that happen to another person. Everybody else can suck it and move on.

There are many who wouldn't think twice but don't let them ruin it for all the people that would have helped. If I were there I would have come up to you and asked if you were okay or needed anything. That's just the kind of person I am and I'm not exactly the biggest fan of human beings but the reason for that is evident by this story. Shit I've risked my own life many a time to save people from getting hit by a car or some other madness. I was once on a train and a girl went into a seizure and fell to the ground, all the people just stood there staring while I sprung into action to help in any way that I could.
