Wow, a typical fTRoLLster shameful comment, which only aims to create controversy...

Not exactly, but I think this guy is a frustrated postmodern academicist ('cos nobody cares what he teaches or composes) who comes here to discount his frustrations with postmodern culture (the real one) through the creation of controversies. I know these kind of people ... they have a lot of fun with it, and after 5 minutes, they return to the bitterness of their disconnected lives.

Not sure how I got here...
    But that tunnel was huge!
    :drummer:

This thread is weird.Op has a kind of air of superiority vybe going aye? That shaped the tone of this whole thread.lol.

I'm really not grasping what he's saying.I mean theory is theory, the actual context of it,well... Is what it is.Technique mainly.

Chords and scales.Maj,Min,inversions,Aug,Sus,Dim,7th,9th,11th,13th maj and min,modes,pentatonic,tritones,tonic,subtonic,diatonic,jazz/harmonic minor, chromatic, exotic, whole tone.I mean really what else is there?

    Time signature,note timing?

Accentuation and attack types and dynamic differences? ie marcato, pizzicato, etc with strings,or adsr with synths or forte/mezzoforte,etc.Vibrato or modulation, bends, harmonics and other types of accentuation/articulation/expression.

Compositional techniques? Chord progression orders, note orders, counterpoint, call and response, top lines, etc.Melody, chords, leads, solo runs, harmonies, accompaniment, accents, percussion, etc.Just not sure what youre getting at? Then you've got arragement sections,intro,verse,chorus,bridge/solo,outro etc in most common music.Builds,fills,drops,transitions,etc.It's really all just technique and method.Right?

Or are you talking about classical music? I just don't understand. Some things are subjective.Like what one finds great and another does is a matter of personal tastes and preference.Isn't it?

So everyone throughout history is using it improperly? Or just now? Or last couple decades? Or just videos you've seen? Or?

Are you the Grandmaster of Music Theory?

I just don't think it's wise to over or underestimate anyone or make generalized statements like "No one is using music theory properly" There's guys on here that know theory or any number of specific techniques for all kinds of things better than me.Isn't that why we're here? To learn and share info?

Also define what you mean by properly? Pertaining to what? Genre or style? Or in a general sense?

Are you the Gatekeeper or the Keymaster? :hillbilly:

Au contraire, mon ami rosâtre, I think it's you, who ridicules people and musical practices for not embracing the subtleties of compositions that sound chaotic (I mean, academic music composed with meticulous and technical effort, that pleases new music aficionados), who are extremely concerned about this. As always, you forget that music is not a set of notations on paper, that a formal structure in music can not even be felt as "present" in the musical experience.

Music(s) crystallize in the listeners' minds through clusters of ‘taste’ that may or may not reflect common genre preferences.

It takes a long time to get to the point where you can make real music. A very long and tedious process.

But since people in the current world of music aren't very thoughtful, they always say to themselves, "It's okay that I don't know anything about music. Instead, I make songs from my heart and present them to my listeners, and they listen and enjoy". An illiterate heart!!!

They should know that their listeners are a mass of illiterate people who have no understanding of music. Illiterate people are the main cause of all the misery on earth. They waste resources and mislead life.

More than 90% of the music genres that exist today have been created by illiterate people and for illiterate listeners. Of course, in your own words, "Never mind".

I'm 100% convinced no one is using Theory of Relativity to fall down properly.

*edit:* In other words, music theory is descriptive, not prescriptive.
