Hi Ladies and people who are not Ladies

I have a question , is there a computer video player that can use an ASIO driver for the sound

I cannot have my DAW loaded and play a tutorial without changing to directsound to hear the video

I also have a question about Bradley Manning

now he wants, hormone therapy and sexual reassignment surgery :dunno:

his sentence 35-year prison maximum security at Fort Leavenworth

Is he unusual or is this what every, small white guy, wants

serving time at a maximum security prison :(

windows media player classic and media player and vlc all allow you to choose the audio driver that you use. Shouldn't be a problem, just go to options/preferences and choose your asio driver

Actually i think that its a Windows 7 and Vista thing. It has something to do with the thing that makes EAX useless.

Windows 7 only support one audio device output. So, its one or another.

Windows XP didnt have this limitation and thats how i could listen to some song in XMPlay via DirectSound while i was using FL Studio with ASIO4ALL.

I have an Analog Devices integrated sound card and i could playback from different sources in Windows XP, not in Windows 7.

But i dunno if that limitation vanishes with a true ASIO card like a M-Audio interface or something like that...

I think that's most likely your problem. In my old XP machine I can run a DAW using ASIO4All and have DirectSound/WindowsSound/whatever playing with any other app (but it has a different soundcard/driver so I can't be sure if it's the OS). Then it's about your soundcard and its drivers. Dedicated ASIO drivers/playback device etc.

    And why two threads?

    Thank You :dancing:

I think you are correct, I do not think a player exists, must be some licensing problem :dunno:

VLC will not show the asio diver for me to select it and I could not find an asio driver for it :(

I thought of it as two different questions, 1 video player using asio drivers

2 a specific question about Reaper, people who do not use it may not be able to help me find the log files

or turn off different plugins *yes* *yes* *yes*

You can load your video in REAPER... Worst case scenario is you may have to re-convert it.

ASIO4ALL is not a dedicated driver. Maybe that's why it's not visible. About Reaper, well, I don't think your plug-ins are to blame. Rather the driver you're using.

Or you could be right about licensing: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=97859

I just tried with REAPER. It seems in the latest version (?) it responds better to ASIO4ALL. It actually disables it as long as VLC is playing/Reaper is minimized (and ASIO not playing) and re-enables it when I close off VLC. Either way, I can't use them simultaneously. Maybe I'm missing something? I don't know if you can select ASIO4ALL in VLC. Try other players?

But you still can't use two programs simultaneously? I figured that's his problem... I guess that's good for higher quality single-app playback but still...

you are correct  , I wold like to watch the video and run reaper at the same time to follow the lesson :dancing:

I do not think it will work :snuffy:

installed JRiver Media Center , it went crazy started to scan every thing for media files :(

and started to request internet connection drove ESET firewall crazy :bleh:

shut it down and uninstalled :wow: :excl:

just wondered how people do this , I have two monitors would be nice to open the DAW in one and watch the video on the other one :dancing:

using ASIO divers *no* *yes*

Thank You to everyone for the help

As I said, your best bet is to import the video in REAPER (either using DirectSound or ASIO4ALL).

Are you sure you are releasing your soundcard in your DAW when the application loses focus? This is an option you have to set, I'm sure you know this but I thought I'd give it a shot.

best way to do it is with two soundcards(you know that already :mates: ), KMPlayer lets you choose two different audio outputs.

Winamp + ASIO out plugin, but winamp does not play all video formats..

Maybe with JACK, i dont know if it works  but its just a fast idea that arrived to my tired brain :)
you could route the audio from the video player into a audio track in Reaper and listen from there..

    from http://jackaudio.org
You can route the output of ASIO applications into the inputs of other ASIO applications (like a VST host application), and then connect the audio output of that application to your system output (or a combination of both).

    or Virtual Audio Cable

    ASIO Window Media Player Plugin

or just install win xp :bleh:
