Just received this email from Steinberg:

As you most probably have noticed, our license servers have been struggling with the overwhelming demand that has led to problems for many of you activating purchased update and full licenses since yesterday's release of Cubase 11.

We are sincerely sorry for letting you down like this, especially at a time that should be special and full of enjoyment, for you as our loyal customer but also for us as a company who have been working hard to release this version in these challenging times.
Our system was unable to cope with the many activations in this short period of time, and we have to admit to ourselves that our license management system as it stands has reached its capacity limits.

Rest assured, however, that no license has been lost.

In order to defuse the situation we have decided to interrupt the sale of new updates until the previously purchased updates have been processed by our license management system.

We would like to thank you, however, for your dedication to Cubase, your enthusiasm for making music, and your decision to immediately update to the newest Cubase version. We promise to do better next time.

Thankfully, I was able to get Cubase 11 authorized late this afternoon and thankfully got my project completed. All I hope is that they make some changes so that this doesnt happen again.

 

After 24 h.:
-I can't run Cubase 10.5
-I can't run Cubase 11
-My eLicenser Control Center tellme no license found to upgrade.

I have wasted several hours trying to update.
I have spent 100€
I feel cheated.
I think Steinberg should compensate all users who bought update.
It is unacceptable.

Yes, I am angry. Who does not?

And the best of all. I'm still waiting. Maybe tomorrow? Am I testing if there is luck?

 

Steinbug literally had this exact situation a year ago when I upgraded from 9.5 ---> 10. I couldn't run either, either. They pointed the finger at me, accusing me of using "unauthorised" :D and "illegitimate" software I dl from their downloader. I was just some random "unlucky" person. But they knew this failure, then. They have done nothing since then to improve anything. It doesn't matter how many apologies their Trumpy McTrumperson president makes. They've know for at least a year that this was an issue. Steinbug prefer to blame customers, than fix problems. That is all.

 

Sadly, this is true... in my case, I stick to Cubase only because I've used it forever and am loathe to learn a new DAW from scratch. Also, it is a fantastic DAW. I just wish that Steiny would up their customer care game... they're really bad at it... uncaring, incompetent and aloof.

 

Like everyone i had trouble with updating.
But i'm patient. I bought my v10.5 update when it was 30$ on sale. Then i waited using only v10. Then i redeemed the activation code just yesterday. And boom version v11 for free. So 30$ from version v10 to v11 which is normally 150$ on steinberg website, that's a good deal. But you have to be patient and miss a version.

 

Yes... I did the same... Jumped ftom 9.5 to 10.5 like that... But missed the sale. Will be sharper this year.

 

That's pretty much the only reason why I still have Cubase. Always just buying the x.5 update when it's on sale, waiting and activating it with the next full version release. That's actually pretty fair for people who don't need the update anyway. Other DAWs are much more expensive and you have to buy the updates even when you don't want them, or pay much more later for an update you actually want.

It's also the reason why I probably stop using Studio One, because the last update was nothing for me and the next will probably be too expensive. And I would stop updating Cubase as well if I had to pay $150 for things I don't need.

 

I just updated it and I did not have any problems. Runs fine on win10 2004, every plugin works and looks good on 43" 4k. I might be the lucky one here

 

Finally get the license!

 

After 2 days finally working BTW I had to run Cubase as Admin! Win 10, Ryzen 3900X Just 12 CPUs, no hyperthreading.

 

Accountability is a thing of the past. The moment a company accepts liability they can be sued so they do not. None of them.
They're all guilty in that department and you can not blame them with the American legal system which can sue a neighbour if their dog craps on their lawn in some places. so they admit nada. None of them.
As for DAW's Cubase has been around for a long time. If it was unpopular nobody would buy it. S*** happens.
ProTools 10 update was a nightmare for some people. A couple of Ableton updates went awry... very few are exempt from bugs.
In fact - It's software, it will never be bug-free and it's the Internet as the download platform so there never be 100% uptime. Server overloads and DDOS attacks are a thing of this century that still happen so you make do.
