put it in a rar or zip file, should be ok, however do you know the person you are emailing to? If not then perhaps send them a link where they can download it, that would probably be a safer way

I suggest you look into setting up a private share between you and whomever you are sending/receiving from/to. Here check this out it might be just what you've been looking for: Waste Make sure you know the person at least somewhat before you do it though. I will be making a post about this later today.

    i wouldn't open a random rar file

    :bleh:

Not sure if safe as it would deliver or safe as it won't have virus :dunno:

Either way, its all up to knowing the person that is sending you the stuff

Never a problem. There is also this as an option: RetroShare which accomplishes the same end.

If you're going the .zip or .rar file way, make sure to encrypt the file with aes-256 when compressing it, put a long-ass password, and for the love of god, don't send him the file's password using the same emails you'll be using for this transfer.

Your email provider won't bother too much with you if you do this from time to time. Just make sure not to draw too much attention from them by doing stupid things such as selling links, transfering 100s of GB of data per month, etc. Remember that if the NSA can tap into email accounts at will and with the push of a button, it's also possible that the MPAA/RIAA could be interested in doing that (when they become smart enough). The FBI, which collaborates with them, can also get access to your email if they have a good reason to do so (and they're easy to come by, these days).

THey cannot look into your emails. noone can use your privacy on court. especially they have to prove that was you that send the mail and its impossible. Maybe your email or ip was used by someone else?

That's like saying they can't break in your home. They can't use what they found in your home in court. They have to prove that it was you that put the drugs there. Maybe someone else stashed the drugs in your home without you knowing it?

    I beg to differ:

How CIA director David Petraeus was traced through email and how to keep it from happening to you

If they have doubts on you, they'll confiscate your computer, look at the cache, history and log files and determine that it was actually you based on many things such as browsing habits, correlating the moments the computer was used with the moments you were at home and possibly on your computer, writing style, those spelling mistakes you always do without noticing, etc.
If they suspect you doing something wrong, they'll give you a rectal exam if deemed necessary. Don't underestimate (but don't overestimate neither) the abilities of even the local police or the MPAA/RIAA.

Your ISP will probably warn you a few times, then the authorities will come down on you.
They'll say something like: We have good faith that it was not you, so make sure it doesn't happen again or we will take disciplinary measures.

Of course, it all depends on what you do. If you become a high profile enough target by thinking that this is a secure way of communicating with people not in the best interest of the government, they can just use one of the many malware spying kits designed by actual legit security contractors (like Egypt did against a protester) to infiltrate your computer, turn on your webcam, microphone without that little light blinking (because webcam vendors implement that function in software, not hardware) and watch you do that stuff without you ever noticing anything.
