Thanks to everyone for their help, advice and comments. I'm hoping that I can leave this alone now.....! I'm still not sure about bits of it but my ears are so fatigued to the sound of it now.

Anyways...Here's the "final" version on Soundcloud. (despite Soundcloud seeming to change the sound of my songs, especially the drums) The link below it is the version I posted originally inviting comments. It's on Google drive.

Thanks again to everyone...! :) (The Goat Doctor.......What a daft name eh ?! Couldn't think of anything else)

I would add some reverb on the vocal, perhaps plate reverb.. also on the strings. But this is just my opinion. Very nice track, would like to hear it finished:wink:

That's great thanks....I'll give it a go!! I'm worried it all seems a bit crowded. Maybe I've just listened to it too many times now... : )

I liked it. A lot, particularly the drumming.

Hi...Thanks...I usually try to tap the drums out myself on the old midi keyboard but I have to admit for this I used 3 different loops I found and cobbled them together! I'm not really happy with the Strings in this yet I think. They're a bit haphazard....I'll probably have to go back and mess around with them......again....

    Cheers..

You mention that the vocals/lyrics are just a guide, but Legotron is stop on, a bit of reverb and a touch of delay would be great.
The song goes from Major to minor all through, and maybe a chorus with a modulation could be good. In beginning, on the right channel there is a guitar that adds harmonic tension (the crossing from major to minor doesn't follow the general structure). I like it, as the guitars arrangement.
The strings could benefit also for a bit of reverb, to create more space, i think.
It's a thumb up for me.

Been around the sister site for years and years and always look on here for the convo, chat about various stuff, but never actually signed up until now, and only did to comment on your track.

What scares me is that this level of quality is out there and not being heard more, it’s absolutely fantastic. The songwriting and structure is superb, got a wonderful feel to it, sounds different but also familiar, reminiscent of a lot of post-punk British singer-songwriter stuff. Blown away.

Never been able to write my own stuff, better at arranging, but wrote a good few bits during lockdown and started thinking I was Macca, you have shown me just how good hardworking musicians can be. Thank you for teaching humility and that there are still people working on the craft.

I like the song and the way you made it, but mix-wise there's a lot of room for improvement. List sent.

Thanks! I agree it could do with a little deviation from the main chords. Unfortunately I haven't been able to come up with much! A few people have mentioned delay but it's not something I've tried on anything. Much learning to do!!
    Thanks again..

Thanks for your kind words .....I've got songs that I wrote nearly 30 years ago. Most of them make me cringe now haha....but there are little bits of them that I still think I can work with so I'll keep trying. I agree completely that there are so many talented people out there that should be recognised more. I often hear stuff by accident and love it so much it then becomes part of my listening collection. Most of which now consists of little known band/artists which, as you point out, should be heard!!

    Thanks again..

Yeah, I also like it a lot. Love the vocals, love the guitars. Wise use of drum loops.
Perhaps unfinished mixing and especially string section like you say, but that's more technical stuff. I feel the strings don't glue well, sometimes I expect to hear more of at least a cello line, sometimes the opposite. Can't put it well into words but trust @No Avenger and other more skilled fellows here than me for details.
Totally agree, a sweet classic delay plus reverb and the vocals would be amazing.

Anyway congrats, it's way very far of being a mess

Hi thanks....I've very little (None) experience of using delay and the results of my experiments last night were , erm.....frightening!!

    More to learn! : )

Nice start. You definitely need to find a change or two to shift the song into third gear.

I was listening to The Talking Head's '77 the other day and this kinda goes in that direction.

I like it! Maybe change the string or eq it to make it higher. And then it just needs some mixing tricks. If you can, get a hold of Fab Dupont's Puremix.com how to listen series, to start with.
Then everything else on Puremix and also mixwiththemasters.com tutorials, Chris Lorde-Alge etc.
They have probably been the best in helping me learn more about mixing.

I would make the string session longer, and what he said before.

Hi...I'm finding it difficult, probably impossible, to find a simple change without changing everything and re-recording. Which I haven't got time for atm!!

It's probably gonna have to stay as is.....I think.....

    Thanks for your input. Aprreciated.
