    Hi there!

Is there any reverb plugin that allows to apply a reverse reverb to an incoming audio?
I am referring to those reverbs which usually come before the sound that causes the reverb itself and it goes up to the sound which causes it.

I know already the tedious hand-made proccess (reverse the sample, apply a reverb, record it, bla bla bla...), but I was wondering if there is any plugin that makes that work.

    Thanks!

If you think about it, as long as the effect doesn't have access to a time machine, this is impossible without adding a lots of delay to the overall signal. You simply can't have this kind of real time reverse reverb.

That being said, Waves RVerb has both a "reverse" reverb algorithm and allows you to set a negative predelay value (max -160ms). It then adds latency (the amount of negative predelay) to the original "dry" signal.

I think that AIR non linear reverb in the AIR Creative Plugin can do Reverse

Check Rob Papen RP-Verb2 Reverse module, if that's what you're after (ofc you have to buffer audio):

(There is also RP-Reverse to play with..)

Waves IR1 has also a Reverse switch, but it will still be triggered by the sound and therefore audible only after it.

If you find a reverb theat does first occur and then play the source, then of course it wil add the according delay for the whole song, as @Riot7 mentioned correctly.

That's the basic method to achieve it. Cut and copy the triggering part and move it forward by the length of the desired reverse effect.
Nothing special about RP's reverb here. Envelope option is available for various IR reverbs, like for instance in IR1.

Haha this reminds my of the "negative delay plugin" April fools joke from awhile ago. https://shop.timexile.com/pages/negative-delay

No you would have to introduce a ton of lookahead and latency to your whole project. The way people typically do reverse reverb leading into a sound, is to resample the output of a reverb, and then just reverse that audio file.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this the sound popularized by a lot of shoegaze bands, particularly Slowdive? I believe I saw a documentary where Neil Halstead was experimenting with the creation of this effect before it was a common technique. Creates that ethereal, drifting in kind of sound. I assume that you need a longer reverb tail for maximum effect but I personally haven't experimented with it.

Early 80´s bands(especially electronic) used this effect a lot, like Depeche Mode

    Hi!
Thanks to all of you for your answers.
Finally, it turns out to be what I was expecting: let's keep doing things as usual:
But, I have to recognise that you hit the target with your suggestion because when I was asking for this, I was pretty sure that there was a plugin which offered this kind of feature and it was Crystallizer.
Did not try the rest, but I believe that the only real way to do this in a proper way is by artisan method: hand-made.

Thank you all, again, anyway for your help.

Hi. What a documentary was that and where can I find it? Do you remember? Thanks

They don't show him doing it, it was just commentary about how he used to stay in the studio and experiment. At that point he was working on material for what would become Souvlaki after the dissolution of his relationship with Rachel Goswell so I guess he threw himself into his work. I believe it was this documentary:

there might be 2 or 3 others, but i would do that with an IR.

reverse existing IRs if you dontk now how to make your own.

but if you are behind *that* reversed reverb for vocals, that can best be done using a delay line - with linear gain and exponential time distribution (faster to the end)

the third method is to reverse the track and render it. suprising results included for free. ;)
