A variation of the classic "crossed pair" mic placement. A stereo take of the source, in this case two tracks of the same vocals. Nothing new.

It's also worth nothing that the two different microphones will also have different response curves and as long as you can get polarity and sample accurate alignment they can cover each others failings, by cutting out the nasty from each and relying on the composite. Though I am not sure how this would provide extra warmth or thickness that wasn't there before. You might blend in the warmth of one microphone with the clarity of a less colored one but you are not going to magically get something that neither microphone could record.

You can also add a third microphone further back from singers that like lick the microphone closest to them or on a more optimal axis for very sibilant performers. There is good proximity effect and bad proximity effect, in extreme cases the closest microphone might even be a trash mic whose output is useless and is just there as source of comfort those who really enjoy fellating their microphone. It is also good practice to have alignment clicks on those positions once they are fixed just for checking timing and polarity.

This doesn't look like a mid/side setup to me.
