    Greetings fellow PT users!

    For 2 years I'm running AudioUTOPIA's PT12.5 on my WIN10 machine.
I've read about the same statements and experiences from other members. PT12.5 has stability issues --> lags in bigger sessions --> very uncomfortable when editing

I would like to switch to 12.3 as I feel I'm done with the current version. It's unbearable to edit as this slow pace and it seem to only get worse, the longer I work on a session.
Next month I'll have some bigger sessions to work on. That's my main reason for the attempted switch.

My question: can I run PT 12.3 along with 12.5 without major issues? Having both installed to really see which one works better?
Or is it A MUST to completely remove 12.5 version for 12.3 to run as best as possible?

Has someone experience with both versions simultaneously installed on WIN10?

    Hello!
Maybe I am wrong but as far as I know you can only run PT12xxx along with the new one PT2020 or the PT10 and below.
The PT12.xxx version works as an updade for all PT12 series you already have installed.

    Thanks for your answer!

    Ah ok!
So the 12.3 should overwrite my current version and act as a "downgrade" then?

In fact you shoud remove the 12.5 first in order to install any 12.xxx versions. Clean install, I mean. Reaper can be overwrited but PT does not.
I am still running the 12.3 in Win 10. I had that lag issue in Win 7 running the 12.5 in another PC but I have never tried it in W10 with this machine yet since the difference between them are not so big. It depends the PC hardware to get that lag issue, not only the OS. Maybe I will give it a try anyday now.

    Hi there,
I have been running AudioUTOPIA's PT12.5 on my WIN10 machine for sometime now. Things have been okay for the most part. There are some minor issues I have ran into (error window(s) will stay on screen unable to close, would have to force quit PT to resolve the issue(s). Some lag here and there. Still have that irritating "Video engine is still running" error.

12.5 Seems to be good with big sessions, haven't had much problems I have learned to work around or with the issues present. I figured I cant really complain much and just go with it. Just happy to see someone else talk about this.

    Hey!

Some issues, as @Metallium already mentioned are hardware related. Probably with nvidia cards (sry I don't recall this, as it was discussed in another thread)?

I have read on the offical Avid forums, that a lot of people complained about 12.4 - 12.7 but praised 12.8. if recall that correctly.

Sure, if it's working and it's minor errors don't bother you, stay with it!

Well, big sessions are a problem faster, than smaller ones. Depending on the editing done. How much has been edited.
A tedious workaround for me was to bounce the edited files down track after track (grouping them didn't help). Then start a new session and import those files so this issue wouldn't bother me. It's just a major problem when editing and sometimes working with midi.

I had a stable PT 10 version 2 years ago, but switched to PT12.5 only because of the offline bounce option. Back then I was working very long sessions (up to 50min) and multiple like 10-15 after on another.
Bouncing that in realtime cost me hours of time I couldn't work.

Now bigger sessions are coming. No chance I'm going to tolerate lags, when I want to edit fast, so a proper version has to do the job.

Wouldn't mind that 12.8 version...;) or any other properly working one.
But I doubt we'll see another release soon...

    Has anybody different news?

As I said I didn't try PT 12.5 in Win 10 with my "new" PC. The 12.3 is working great, no error messages...just that weird Solo mode behaviour. But PT12.5 has the same when you flip the solo button while playback is running.
I don't like to install and unninstall softwares all the time. Even using Revo this will destroy the windows eventually. So I see no point to change it for now. Maybe for a big different PT version like the latest PT12.x...but we are stucked at 12.5 yet.
What is I am really waiting for a guardian angel comes to us with the PT2020 or even the 2019.6.
    Who knows?
