In response to your suggestions, I have rearranged and re-recorded this song. Thanks to all for support. Last edited by a moderator: Sep 29, 2020
You made me feel something. So it's a good song. But we can argue that if you like! Two vocal tracks in as many weeks? Putting me to shame. Well done. And well done for having the balls to approach vox! It had to happen, mate!
I don't do myself any favours by taping the vocal as I make it up on the first take. But I knew it was a delicate song and needed a good singer. So as I say, Lenny will be saying a few Hail Mary's and an Our Father as penance.
this is amazing , a good song is a good song I dont care how good is the singer , if you would like to share your process , how did you make it ?
My thanks to you for your kind words. I haven't written many songs in 20 years because then I worked with a good female singer. I continued writing my own songs and they were performed by others around the world. Lately a friend sent me lyrics and I sat at a piano and composed from those lyrics. Like the last song I posted "Treetalk" it came quickly. I put down the piano in Logic, added two arpeggiated acoustic guitars and orchestrated the chorus with Vienna Ensemble. Then I set up a microphone and "winged it" starting with the low vocal part. I doubled it and then did a harmony a third above. This wasn't easy as the song changes from C major to an A major in the chorus, then a bridging chord, a E major made finding the right harmony a battle. I then doubled the fifth harmony and sent the lower harmonies to one short reverb and the high ones to a longer reverb. I use a Brauner Phantom microphone into an SSL SiX through a Warm Audio 1176 into Apollo interface.
Well, if I'd sung it, the title would be 'Lenny Belardo is not happy with No Avenger', but as it is now, I see no reason for the title.
It sounds way too busy vocally, I found TreeTalk was really amazing but this one just doesn't cut it for me. This is only my personal opinion, others seem to like it a lot. Give it a rest and then listen to it after few days have passed you will surely see where any changes are needed, this is how I work on my own compositions.
A beautiful and ironic song! Despite the sad tone, you managed to make me smile with the chorus! Also, I liked the oboe and the ending, with that lydian flavor. Nice one Lenny: Keep up the good work!
I like it. Well done. Probably can be improved but I leave the advices to the people here that know more than me. On a side note... not the first time, when coming from AZ, that a thread title makes me WTF!?
I think it really nicely well done. Beside the vocals and lyric leading the song I like the woodwinds complimenting and sweetening the deal.
Your just being hard on yourself, which is to be expected by the majority of artists. This is excellent Lenny. Your vocals are actually perfect for this sound.
Great work, mate. I loved listening to this. Loved the lyrics. There's depth to it, in other words soul. The fx on vocal complements the song nicely. Keep up the good work!
@Lenny Belardo. your voice is fine, and if anything I would lose all the vocal processing, which imho is making it sound worse! (like a face with way too much makeup). Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits, I could reel off hundreds of singers who don't have "good?" voices, but actually they have great voices for conveying what they are trying to convey. In other words, it's your voice. Sing your songs in it, and be confident. Hope that helps Last edited: Sep 25, 2020
Please tell Lenny Belardo to reconsider his opinion about Lenny Belardo... Because Lenny Belardo is a good Lenny Belardo. Great song man! Love the vox too! Well done
