What defines a mastering EQ?

 

Designed for mastering purposes?

 

BX Digital V3, the newest Bettermaker EQ232D
Shadow Hills Compressor .. those are fantastics plugins, I have tried Unisum, VERY Impressive though ... but of course, i don't do mastering on my own so i would not need it anyway.

Apologies, I messed up the thread title, now corrected.

 

Sorry, but . It's just an ordinary digital EQ, soundwise. I've tested and compared it, nothing special.

 

The reason I am asking is because I use a lot of Nubula/AA, so I am looking for some tools that are specifically designed for mastering, as I get my character elsewhere.

ITB for 2 bus, my vote goes to L2 or Weiss in combination with Standard Clip.

 

Pricing & Marketing, everything else is Voodoo Bullshit.
People like Friedemann Tischmeyer knows it very well . . .

Then any clean EQ like FF or DMG Audio will do. No need to pay 230€ for some hype.

 

Looks like a nice hardware EQ, but the 13.646,08€ are a minor drawback, IMHO.

 

If he's looking for a compressor the L2 might not fit. Other than that I prefer the DMG Audio TrackLimit.

 

He asked for the best mastering eq. This is the best mastering eq.
It probably has the most features of all hardware mastering eq's and Roger Schult only uses the best components.

 

Weiss is excellent to whatever I have left of my hearing. I'm becoming so deaf that I can't even hear myself think.

 

Truthfully and only because I have been lucky to work with some great engineers, the best mastering EQ and compressor to have in a mastering environment is a talented and knowledgeable mastering engineer. It's like a great musician, they can make ordinary instruments sound like a million dollars.
What I have seen and heard stated is the long-term Mastering engineers say it is a specialist field, many liked the Manley hardware and many use the UAD Manley plugin. I still see many serious studios with it in their rack as well as the Aphex Compellor. However, not all gear is perfect for every style of music or liked for that matter by every engineer.
I also know people who swear by Sequoia or Wavelab as a Mastering tool and they do it all manually inside the app, then people who use Slate's FX-G and swear by that as they say they compression can be totally transparent (like the old Compellor)... Then there are some who like the Multiband-parallel...some who still use only hardware.

The one thing I do know is the less you have to add into anything, and the more you know the better off you are. The EQ if it has no inherent noise or coloration when flat, as well as limiting and compression, is only as good as the person who operates them.

 

I meanwhile dl'ed the UNISUM demo, peace of cake, click on download, a zip pops up, enter, install, done. 30 - 40secs. That's how it should be.

This is compressor is pretty far from sounding clean. Interstingly the most close sound have, hold on tight, Voxengo Marquis and Deft, no joke.

This compresor is higly regarded as the top ... I never compared it to the Plugin Alliance version so I can´t say the plugin is the best mastering compressor.
