Why do they do it?

I'm, approaching 80 years old. I wear spectacles, I have a 19" monitor and both Win 7 and Win 10 on separate Hard Drives.

Studio One is fine, I can alter the colors and make it readable, but programs like Scaler 2, Ampla Guitar and Logic Pro to name but three of the many, have adopted this totally insane color scheme, dark grey on a black background.

If I make my screen resolution any lower than I can't see the entire screen. If I go to Personalize and increase the magnification, then I can't get to the OK button it's off the bottom of the screen.

They just forget about older people that don't have 20:20 vision any longer. I find Ample Sound's products and Scaler 2 almost unusable. I have to get right up to the screen with a magnifying glass and even then, becase of the dark grey against black, I can barely read the test or make out the icons.

Have these clowns all gone mad? We'll soon be getting black on black. Sure, I don't want glaring white with big black text, but if Studio One can give us some oprions to change the color scheme to suit our vision, why can't Ample Sound, Scaler 2 and Logic Pro X have the same courtesy. There's a BIT of leeway with Logics, but not very much.

Is there any wonder that people pirate software when the producers are so damn selfish, with their 40" monitors and perfect vision, that they don't give a ..... about the people who PAY them.

Have you tried changing the settings in Scaler2? It allows you to adjust the "view size", has a dark/light mode, and allows you to change the font style & sizes. I'm not sure about Ample guitar but VI usually has settings that let you make this kind of adjustments.

Light on eyes, nice during the nights. That having said, you might actually want to contact these companies and explain your issues with the UI and that other people might have similar issues as well. They might do it because they don't know better, ya know? Like, it wouldn't have even occurred to me that elderly people might have trouble with such color schemes

No, I didn't find a settings, so I'll get out my magnifying glass and have a look. Thanks for the tip

I dont have so much vision problem, and even so, those grey against black letters are fatiguing.
I agree that devs should take this in account.

PS wrong category, moved to software

I find that a larger monitor helps a lot. 27" was a sweet price point when I bought mine.
It is annoying that the graphics options, including resolution and wasted space (and menus and controls, etc) seem pathetic in many programs.
I think you may be right in the idea that these issues are greatly minimized on the producers' 40" monitors, but perhaps minimized enough on 27" or so....

I know the eyestrain and pain you are going through, I am well up there in age wear glasses that are quite strong and have the same issues, another that bothers me is programs and plugins that fill more than the entire screen and are not resizable, when I change the resolution on my monitor to accommodate the program the text is so small that I can't read it or make it out. I even changed to o 24" monitor but the problem is still there. All programs should have user selective color schemes and fully resizable GUIs. Do they expect us all to buy 65' to 120" monitors to be able to properly see and use their programs. I've never really had problems in the past when almost all programs were adapted to 1024x768, but the imbeciles who create the programs now don't give a damn about users anymore, they have huge monitors on which they design and build the programs. They should be forced to work with 14" monitors, because this is what we have use when we need portability.

Hello sir. I don't see your problem getting solved unless you can afford and are willing to buy a bigger monitor. My dad is 92 and has a similar problem to yours. Truth be told he doesn't do DAW, he just uses skype, youtube and a few other easy apps i taught him. I have to comment though that the colour scheme and resizable gui/windows pose a problem with most software (not all thankfully) in universally all OS platforms.
For your case i would suggest a decent "cheap" IPS 32" monitor with 1080p resolution. Surely there are 1440p and 2160p 32" monitors but these will only increase your problem instead of solving it.
    So, something like this:
    https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pRxbt6/lg-32ml600m-b-320-1920x1080-75-hz-monitor-32ml600m-b
    Cheers:)
PS: If 32" is too big for your space then a 27" @ 1080p (as mentioned earlier) will do the trick, it just won't be as effectively easier on the eye.

For Ample Sound Plugins you can change that infamous fancy-seaboard like keyboard. But the problem with especially the chorder remains.

For me the greatest eye killer is Tracktion Waveform DAW. You need more than 22 inches to read those small scalable fonts. Way more.

Augmenting the monitor/videocard alpha setting can help though is far from ideal. The alpha is in fact like the Dynamic Range Compression of the screen lightness.

So what, only Ron Jeremy can use Waveform?

I'm really curious: what music do you play? Do you have something for us to listen to?

In a small house, with a pension of less than 800 Euros per month and a daughter that is the sole provider, perhaps you would send me one of these monsters as a gift (and a team of builders to make my roome bigger). Then you can rest assured that you have taken the onus of proper behaviour away from the developers.

Who knows, they may even give you a prize

I play guitar. I make my own Backing tracks (not with Band In A Box - it sucks). I tried to sell them (I have over 700), but no one wants real music these days, only rap and hip hop. I had a website for more than 5 years. trying to sell BT's and Tabs / Notation for Melody, Bass and I could take out any instrument. I asked the huge sum of 3 Euros for a BT and 2 Euros for Tab or Notation or both. I started it to try to build up the pennies I get for a pension (why so low? Because I lived in Rhodesia and South Africa most of my life).

In that whole time I sold 24 Euros, so I shut the site down. BTW I play all kinds of genres. There's a thread about 'The Loner' on Sounds. Where I'm trying to get the Gary Moore sound. I haven't got there yet, but no one complained about the BT. You are welcome to listen to it.

I found the settings button (well my daughter did), it certainly helps with a bigger font. Can't say I'm crazy about the color schemes but It's better now. I think it has possibilities, I tried BIAB but it's just jazz and everything it makes sounds like jazz and that's a genre I'm not really "into'.

I use their M III for nylon acoustic guitar on Backings, but I've never found out how to change that stupid 'newfangled' keyboard to the old standard one.

    How do you do it?

thanks for giving the me the nice vision of many more years of making music! :)
and i agree fully, remember scalers first version? that was a freaking joke of a design. its still not good but a bit better though

it must be a dumb trend, as disgusting as the trend with all the crap movies coming out from "hollywood", mostly grey, dark depressing looking piles of shit, cant see shit. they adopted that "look" some years ago
