Just realised that I need to rip some CDs to my hard drive to extract some samples to . wav files. I'm running Win 10 on a 64 bit PC. Can anyone suggest an app that just does that, with little or no frills, just a basic ripper that wont interfere with anything on my studio PC.
    TIA

There's EZ CD Audio Converter. That might be what you're looking for.

    Exact Audio Copy

      • It is free (for non-commercial purposes)
      • It works with a technology, which reads audio CDs almost perfectly. If there are any errors that can’t be corrected, it will tell you on which time position the (possible) distortion occurred, so you could easily control it with e.g. the media player
With other audio grabbers you usually need to listen to every grabbed wave because they only do jitter correction. Scratched CDs read on CD-ROM drives often produce distortions. But listening to every extracted audio track is a waste of time. Exact Audio Copy conquer these problems by making use of several technologies like multi-reading with verify and AccurateRip.

EAC is great but it requires a lot of work to set up, but If you need a perfect, error-free rip it is hands down the best. Someone else mentioned CDex and from what I remember it's pretty straightforward right out of the box.

That 'lot of work' is required for initial EAC setup only. It is valid until you change your CD drive with a different model.

Isn't 96 kbps even better? It's the basic YouTube standard, and no one seems to object.

I usually prefer to work with .wav files, not MP3's, but thanks for all your advice.

I only consider CUERipper and CDex. Both 100% free and clean.

AudioGrabber rips to wav and optionally mp3. It seems to me that also CDex has the same feature.

Yeah, high frequencies are overrated. Furthermore, all the music is now composed with the 808 trap bass in it: everything above 5khz is useless
