I thaught this topic could be very interesting and helpful for a lot of us. Do you have any ideas how to protect ourselfs against being catched? I personally could advice good firewall like zonealarm, good VPN and doing everything to stop windows spying on us. Manual tweaking and softwares like O&O, WPD, Blackbird etc. do wonders. Also interesting would be the topic of Police intervention into our house as I heard about situations where after annonymous reporting of a suspected crime Police was searching for illegal software. Maybe there would be some solution like external usb hard disk? But again then everything also can be found in the registry. Any thaughts? I would like to encourage you to discuss :). Cheers!

Given the ongoing game of Whac-A-Mole that Foster likes to play with this forum,
I'm going to go out on a limb here, take an early bet, and predict that he's already back again.
It just has that flavour - and it coincides with when Imprint was obviously going to get booted out.
Any takers for my wild bet? And would there be any prizes for guessing correctly?
(I'm probably totally wrong and already owe Borys an apology - but what the heck, it's the weekend)
    :dunno:

What do you do to protect your illegal plugin software?

Normally, I tell them not to accept anything from people they don't know, and if they feel unsafe in a situation to yell out "STRANGER! DANGER!". Just the basics really.

Just keep a box of cookies always handy. That way if you get raided you can offer the Police a cookie and you can all be chums.

Be careful if you're tempted for a midnight snack to eat them yourself though, as just after that is when you'll get raided and you'll have no cookies for protection...

Piracy is illegal even in the space, on the moon and on jupiter: where are you from?
Maybe is more realistic to say "well, in my country, legality doesn't work so well, nobody cares if I infringe copyright"

I put triggers in easily accessible places all over the house and at night I only sleep with a dead man switch.
These safety measures ignite 50 kilos of Semtex wired in the fundamet of my house.
THEY WILL NOT GET MEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! :bleh:

Alternatively, purchase and stash 2 kg of coke around the property - when you get raided, they'll be so happy with the drug bust that they won't care about the software...

What @breadd refers to is called "Fair dealing", in the US it is called "Fair use". Basically a copyright exception whereby anyone who reads a photocopied book doesn't go to jail. Same with a plugin, I don't think anyone has ever had a problem with the law because they use a cracked Serum in their home. The sharing mechanism on which piracy is based is, on the other hand, absolutely illegal. For example, if you use torrent to download your software you are commiting a crime and you could be prosecuted (your provider spies on you, know that)

I have to read up on it now cause im finding conflicting information such as https://www.theglobeandmail.com/rep...-anti-piracy-rules-worldwide/article34223771/

I know that getting piracy notices from ISP here is a joke, though they used to try and charge money now they just ask you to stop over and over

(Ive only ever gotten ISP notices for new and popular TV show torrents though)

This scared me for a second LOL https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-46/page-11.html#h-116187

What you do is use "unofficial" software as a hobby: no one will ever come knocking on your door for this.
Instead, when you say that "where im from piracy is legal as long as its not for profit" is fake news
Don't get confused, they are two very different things

External HDD, usb flash memory sticks to replace the downloaded releases from notebook (internet download only) to the offline-only studio PC.

    That is all

Mh, reading a photocopied book and using a keygen to break the protection might be two different things.

And getting caught and/or in trouble/jail is of course something completely different.
