I posted the a Gif on reddit of my issue here, no one could figure out: https://www.reddit.com/r/ableton/comments/ikl804/why_is_this_happening_after_going_to_live_10_from/
I have a very powerful computer for Ableton. Windows 10. 6 core i7 5820K overclock to 4.5ghz. 32 gb ram, gtx 1070 8 gb etc. running Ableton Live 10.1.6 R2R crack. I can run projects with 120 channels with dozens of plugins each channel and Kontakts out the wazoo and not go above 40-50% resource usage. Yet if I open a project with any wave forms the UI completely bogs down and becomes choppy when zooming in and out or resizing. Its something about the way Ableton 10 renders the wave form visually in the arrangement view… compared to how it did in Live 9 which was butter smooth.
Even if I open a brand new project and just put 10 channels of audio files maybe 3 minutes long each, with NO PLUGINS. It still becomes very choppy UI resizing or zooming. This is insane. I am on Ableton 10.1.6 and this never happened in Ableton live 9. Is there no way to improve this? it really slows down workflow. Maybe Live 10 is just not smooth because it now shows fades and other advanced wave form info all in arrangement? but my computer can run the latest games at 240fps, so i cant imagine Ableton being that graphically demanding. In these projects even fab filter animations are running at like 10 frames per sec.

    lol 240fps @ what ? 1080P? 24hz?
The trick is to get full 60FPS @60Hz etc.
Oldscool was 200hz monitors with no vsync.
    Imagine that.

i dont get what you mean. but anyway i play games at 240hz at 1080P on 240hz monitor. games like CS Go and overwatch etc. i was just making a point that graphically my computer is not weak, i dont know what GUI is choppy in ableton 10 as opposed to ableton 9

Have you tried adding -_ForceGdiBackend to your ableton options.txt file, as suggested in this ableton forum thread ?

EDIT: I also noticed an interesting post towards the end of that thread (page 2), which also suggests some setting changes that you should follow in your nvidia control panel.

In a weird way he suggests that the problem could be in graphics drivers. 240Hz monitors aren't on the Ableton's top 20 development list.
