@demha weird thing - all midi folders I copied to Application Support are now gone :/ Is this because I used Restore Midi Database?

See these screenshots so you get a better idea of what file should be where. FYI admin is my username in the shots.

Enable your drives and sidebar to show in your FINDER preferences. And also Goto view "Show Path Bar" so you can see the full path of where you are in FINDER.

@demha WOOOORKINGGG! your last post helped me, I fucked up with different Libraries, macOS is so different from windows. Thank you sir for all your help, very very kind of you!

BTW does you sd3 works flawlessly in Logic? Because when I import midi track to Logic and play this track with SD3 as effect there is some delay with marker that shows actual position, even when I stop playback the beat still plays for few seconds

Did you try playing it as vst instruments input instead of using it as an effect input? Eg: see

The input is where SD3 is loaded. Not as an effect.
Also this video should be helpful to route the outputs to logic from SD3.

Demha, thank you for your really helpful responses in this thread. I am having a separate issue getting the Core MIDI grooves to load. Below are the details:

    - MacOS. AU works in Reaper and Logic. VST and Stand-alone app (which directs to VST) won’t open, if it even matters
    - Kits (both sounds and pics) all load and play fine
    - BUT... There are no MIDI grooves and I can’t find any MIDI grooves anywhere on my Mac. The application support folder has sub folders that look like they might contain MIDI data however the folders only include TXTEDIT files named ‘midiDB’

    - I separately downloaded the Post-Rock expansion pack and the kits and MIDIs work fine (and there is a folder titled MIDI that makes it easy to find and load). I can use those Post-Rock MIDI files with the other SD kits but still no access to the maiN/core MIDI groove library

Do I need another download? (I have the main crack plus all 5 library files all loaded up). Or do I need the ability to run SD standalone?

Thank you in advance for any help!

I figured it out — core MIDI was in a separate, 7th download. So you need the program, the 5 big downloads, plus the core MIDI download. Found it all on sister site.

I don't know how to run the update but there is a fairly recent version of SD3 out there that runs fine on Catalina you can use as a starting point.

you don't need to run anything for update if you haven't legit lucense for SD3.
just open content folder and copy folders/files to previous instaled library.

also, you must look better at this page... to find this post:

    Hey everyone,

I have the Logic Plugin working fine for SD 3 but the standalone app does not work on my Catalina install. Did I miss something? How can it work in one place but not the other?

Also, like others I am very confused about where to install additional sound libraries. I plan on installing all the various metal drum packs and want to use them on an external - using the library functions of SD 3 interface, this is not clear. The only way I was able to get my first to work was to install the expansion sound library contents SPECIFICALLY in the folder that already exists with the same name:

    library/application support/toontrack/superior drummer 3/sound database/EZX2_DeathMetal

What about expansions I download where I don't have the proper naming convention?

I want to put ALL of these an on external drive. I am about to install the core sound library on an external, and want to put all metal expansions on there as well. Can anyone help me?

I have installed the Core Midi exactly where it needs to be, yet it is not recognized by SD 3 in Logic Pro X. The only way I can get anything to work is to install some EZX libraries off my external (death metal and another). The core sounds or the midi do not work after following all the forum directions in a very detailed way.

    :(

Any one who needs help please post screenshot with this mode so we can easily see the path and contents.

FYI This is not the folder for your "sound libary" it is the folder for your sound library's database only ( which contains small soundDB system files for all of toontrack's released libraries' default internal data files). Dont install your "sound library" there.

For any midi (even core midi) to work you need to have atleast some sound library, ezxs or sdxs or even the core sound library.
These large libraries can be installed any where for example an external drive. You just have to Open Superior Drummer 3 and add Library path which is in your case is an external HD if you installed it there.

    Thanks Demha,

Where do you install the midi that comes with expansion packs like SDX? Do you leave them place or do you have to put them into the overall/general midi folder for SD3 to include them?

    awesome thread, thank you demha!

maybe slightly off topic, but does anyone know if installing these will mess with my legit install of superior drummer 2?

Not sure about the legit version but if you have newer sound libraries installed whether if its EZXs or SDXs, Superior Drummer 2 will show you an alert of the libraries not compatible with SD2. But NY Avatar and many other older libraries work, as for midi all newer midis also show up properly in SD2.

thank you yeah ive seen that already, with some ezx libraries that are fine in ezd but will only show up in superior for v3 and up

i meant it more like, will installing SD3 from the version listed on the first page of this thread mess up my legit auth for SD2?

(im in the middle of a long project that uses SD2 extensively)
