Sorry if this is a stupid question, but can anybody get me in the ballpark of this 'pushed'/driven 808 sound, I feel like if you mix it like this you only need some ambient chords to make a vibe quick.

Please help me out, I bet it's not that hard, some distortion and stuff, but what ''exactly'? I'm really looking for 808 texture and sound like this.

    Help me out, thanks!

That's why I stated it's probably something really basic, but yeah, still want that sound. No I don't own Waves plugins, but what do you suggest? There's always the sister site, but I might have other plugins that cover the same ground as the waves versions.

Get me in on that sauce :)

This mentality doesn't fit with music production, imo. There are many ways to get a desired result. But you'd have to know "exactly" what that producer used, to get your track "exactly" the same.

How long have you been recording music, just out of interest?
What daw or gear do you use? OS may even be useful to know in regards plugin options too.
We have threads here already on this subject, too.
And mostly people refer to the same YT vids.

Get Serum or Massive or whatever synth you have, start from scratch, add sinewave, add pitch lfo modulation, play with envelopes, add distortion, try different ones Trash2/RC20/Saturn/Reviver/BlackBox/Crimson/VSM3 then add eq/clipper/compression the list goes on its endless, you could also run these processors in parallel and make it sound even better than that distorted artifact 808 you posted.
    And... remember to have fun!

I understand it may come across like a stupid question, but it really isn't sometimes you really like a certain sound and want to incorporate it into your own productions so you can do your thing with it and be creative with that distinct flavour. I've been doing some research and I'm going to pick up Plugin Alliance Vertigo VSM-3 which I just demo'ed and gets me into that ballpark. I have Decapitator, but in contrast to popular opinion I can't seem't to incorporate into my workflow, I won't say it's bad. I've been doing music for 20 years since my first Roland groovebox mc-909, but sometimes I just value some input from random people to spark ideas or get me into the right direction.

Thanks for your input, but too bad you didn't share some tips on how you'd handle achieving that 808 sound the best you could.

I'm using Logic X fully itb for what its worth :)

Ofcourse as 'audiophiles'/producers I agree it's nothing special and the song itself is nothing to write home about, but hey... I'm in the business of supplying (young) rappers with beats and amongst others of course, this sound style appeals to them so being the professional that I am (ahem LOL!) I do some research and in no way am I too lazy too experiment, I just wanted some input.

I literally just demo'ed VSM-3 and the way it lets you apply distortion on select frequencies and also choose 2nd and 3rd harmonics intensity apart from each other is really nice, I'm really amazed at how it blends in my workflow! Great tips on those plugins. I already own Decapitator and was looking at Tantrum (it's a digital distortion for a change I believe). Which ones would you prefer for this type of urban material or 808 heavy music? Do you have experience with all of them? :)

BTW any Acustica Audio Nebula users here who know which 'Henry Olonga All You Can Eat' presets can give a sound like this? Is this even possible with Nebula?

If any of y'all want to take on the challenge, make an 808 sounding similar to this and share examples, that'd be fun, so we can let our sound taste speak.

I thought initially it was a 'standard' spinz 808 with some distortion, but people in here came up with suggestions to make custom 808's so I'm wondering how that sounds. I never do it because in MY case it's kind of not beneficial to do that each time a client is in the room who expects me to make something that impresses him (which is becoming sometimes a little harder for me as these kids seen everything at the age of 7 LOL!) I simply don't have the time for that. I just need to make drum samples sound 'cool' fast, but I'm curious to what sound wizards can cook up. I'm 'just' a producer/beatmaker ;)

So do I since '99, yet not all itb. So we could talk about the stock plugs now.
Because I had to ask those questions first before I was to help you, which I don't think will be possible now if you couldn't understand that.
No it didn't. I said the concept of "exactly" is not of my mentality with music production.
But why did you ask it if you think it is a stupid question? Maybe you are projecting that you think I thought that? I didn't.
Uh sorry, but as I said already, please use the search engine here at AS.
I already posted one NY Hip Hop producer explaining bass and 808 techniques, as has another member, and you can just search YT too.
This topic is almost as frequent as Kontakt problems on AS.
And the search engine is your friend!
In my first reply (to help bump the thread) I just wanted to express that your question isn't necessarily the right approach, from my pov.

  15. If there is an abundance of any particular sample on earth (in fact the entire solar system) it is the 808 kick. I rarely use an 808 kick except for low sub air pressure and I must have hoarded thousands of them. If you are, or intend being a professional producer, you need a toolkit with every tool. Store and collate your samples on an external in an orderly manner that you can audition them quickly. You'll find one that's already been treated to sound like the example you posted. You don't need to buy plugins to get that sound.

Go to the sister site and get Sublab if you don't already own it. It has some close sounds to this and you can also tweak as well you really don't need much more. I mean it's a sine with some distortion and a couple of layered kicks on some hits which I would sidechain to a multiband comp and only compress some of the low end.

Can't you just get this with any free distortion and some lowpass? I'm pretty sure you can. It's nothing special IMO. Just a short muffly/knocky kick layered with a saturated simple FM bass or sine.

The track is -17LUFS inbetween the bass, so the bass is loud af in comparison. Remember that. Turn down the "music" and vocals and let the short kick and saturated bass be loud. Make sure your bass ducks a little when the bass hits, to avoid masking/overlapping (add some attack on the bass or duck it with SC compression).

Oh, and happy 808-day! *sinewave sign*
