I guess it is a major release because it inlcudes Notion rather than a standalone product

If you play live and/or need a stripped down version of Notion then it's probably a worthwhile update. If you don't need either then I don't really see the point in upgrading.

I wonder if introducing a subscription service as an option means that they intend to move version 6 to subscription only?

Good luck catching up with the pro tools and cubase userbase with this kind of release. Indeed, pro tools and cubase have lots of flaws, but contrasted with studio one version 5....let me be generous, there IS NO competition between them !

Looking at the full list of new features it's a big disappointment for me... Can't believe this is v5, it's more like v4.7.
    1. No automation in mastering page.
    2. No dual pan mode/separate left-right pan knobs in the console.
    3. No draw tool for waveforms.
    4. No pre-fader gain envelope.
    5. Embarrassing color palette.
    6. No proper faders for sends.
    7. No crossfade editor.
    8. No ability to offline render/freeze bus tracks.
    9. No proper sample slicing/chopping and playing tool.
    10. Very limited level metering options.

I could go on. I was really hoping these simple features would be finally added, got Presonus Sphere instead (subscription).

My guess is that they hold on on it because they need money ASAP. I'm sure we'll see it in 5.2 or 5.5.

I agree with you. They focus the upgrade on gadgets such as redesigned FX UIs when S1 is still missing some basic features.

why switch just because you dont like the new version ? Just stay on 4.6
I just for example am stil on Fl Studio 12 cause i dont see a reason to migrate everything to 20
