So UAD is having a Half-year early sale, and I am thinking of getting 1 or 2 plugin-ins to use in my new Apollo Twin. Any recommendations that are must-haves?

 

Depends on do you use them mostly for recording or mixing...
My favourite Unison is Neve 1073, few others for mixing (SSL G Buss Compressor, LA-2A, 1176 collections, Precision Limiter, Oxide Tape, Pultec... but that's a matter of taste

Seeing how you only have a Twin I would go for stuff that effects overall mix or master. Go for the one trick pony things that no other company provides. I would run demo's of what interest you. See how much you can get away with your DSP. Also buy one. Then they give you another $25 coupon code. So always buy them one at a time.

For me no matter the genre of music you make the must haves are #1 Ampex ATR 102, #2 SSL 4000 G Bus, #3 Oxide Tape. I would put the Shadow HIlls Mastering Compressor on that list however I have the Plugin Alliance Shadow Hills MC Class A which has more added features that I like. The Studder A800 would be a nice get but it's really meant to be used on all your tracks.

Mate, it's all about taste, different people, different taste
Just get the damn Apollo and try the demo and easily find out yours! (15 days demo), whenever you register new plugin your demo time will be reset, even if you tried all the plugins, they will be reset for another 15 days,

Isn't your Apollo second hand? I don't know that re-registering it allows you to get free plugins. You should have received new licenses from the previous owner. My plan of attack is as follows. I go for the buy 3 get 1 free approach. With a discount it's $374. Capitol Chambers is normally $349. So I buy 1 get 3 free. And I try and pick 3 others that are usually $349 too. I should add that I have almost all of the UAD I need.

 

bought the akg reverb yesterday, will buy the SSL channelstrip next week

other popular plugins people love:
studer and ampex tape, distressor and fatso, compressor collections, manley EQ and comp, shadow hills, lexicon reverb, EMT plate, massenburg eq....

 

The simple Neve plugin, which is selling at $74 dollars, plus the $25 discount everybody got, it's a no brainier to buy it for $49. I guess that could be the cheapest upgrade for your Unison preamps.

 

LA-2A bundle is a must have. I use it in all tracks. Also I love the Harrison EQ.
