(yea title is clickbait, but whatever lolz)
email from AVID I received yesterday night:

Hello, This email is to inform you that in the near future Avid will be clearing older Pro Tools projects from free cloud storage accounts. (Please watch for a follow-up email with details on timing.)

Following COVID-19, there has been an influx of users taking advantage of our cloud platform. We have learned that older projects place a burden on cloud performance. Fortunately, all Pro Tools | First users on version 2019.6 and later have the ability to save an unlimited number of projects locally to their computers. This is easy to do and explained in this video. If you are not on the latest version of Pro Tools | First, you can download and install it from your Avid Master Account or Avid Link. Alternatively, if you prefer to continue to store your projects in the cloud, you can purchase an Avid Premium Cloud Plan which enables unlimited cloud storage.

We will continue to provide updates via email and will communicate dates when available.

    Many thanks,

    The Pro Tools Team

Storing projects in the cloud?! All these cloud corporations and companies are madhatters. I have my NAS made from an older but still absolutely reliable PC, with 7[!] hard disks in it, running OpenMediaVault and driven by XFS file system, thus I need no cloud, nor would I share my data, unless I want to, with anyone. My projects are just nicely and cosy and safe here. :) Corporations have gone completely berserk with this intrusion on your data. I'm living completely off the grid in that sense.

I just hope to be able to get rid of the bloody Windows for audio one beautiful day. [Imagine a black women baptist quire singing and clapping "oh happy day" here ]

    Genius discovery.

After giving much thought I think they're saying that the new projects run faster on the cloud but not in the hard disk.
They should explicitly advertise this on new PT versions: "Featuring aerodynamic projects". To avoid confusion.

Do they really need to make it sound like that?
They seem to be forgetting how to treat their customers or in this case their potential ones.

    Clearly a failure to communicate.
I think what they mean is "users that haven't payed newer versions make the Cloud slower because the older projects aren't aerodynamic".

Roughly translated, their architecture can't cope and they want to coerce more people into upgrading to generate more revenue.

Unfortunately, most people born after 95 became victims of the tech giants...

Back in the days, there were some basic rules, and most people followed them.
    Things like
    - never type your real name on internet
    - never type your address, family address, etc
    - keep your banking/payment data as secured as possible
    - pretty much don't trust anybody
    - never post your real personal data, credentials, passwords, etc etc

Most people, despite being much less savvy, about the new technologies, etc etc, had understood their private data, passwords, even email addresses, were like their car/house keys , that they needed to hide and protect, at any cost...

With most people born after 1995-2000, who were raised surrounded by flat tvs, tablets, smartphones, touch devices, fast internet, social media crap, etc etc, they lost all sense of responsibility... or rather... they never had any responsibility.. all that matters, is the instant gratification... instant pleasure... they must have everything, not tomorrow, not today...but NOW !

It doesn't matter, which price they need to pay, for that immediate pleasure. And the tech giants, obviously, 100% exploit it.

Oh, there's this new cool app, that allows taking photos, adding 3d objects, text, etc, that everybody is using, but the apps says it's going to access all the files, is going to read all emails, will copy and send to their servers all the contacts data, is going to have full access to the device, and it even requires entering the visa and paypal data, as well as the real name, address and phone number ?
Big dilemma here ! It's true the app is asking a lot of things... but on the other hand, the app is really cool, everybody is using it...!

Most people will still install it and accept everything... because what really matters is... pleasure... and fun.

It would be stupid, to not install the app and have fun, like everybody else, just because some stupid app permissions !
And most people, unlike the 'before 1995' people, will simply say "oh.. you know what... after all... I have nothing to hide...! "

To these people, nothing is bad, nothing is dangerous... with the arrival of the social media, suddenly, nothing is bad. Never would someone from 1960..70..80... post photos of their naked kids, on some social website !

Just like never would those same people trust these big companies, and start uploading all their private files to some random cloud service...

It is crazy, how these big companies were able to quickly and easily convince people that all their private files were at risk , in their homes, and having 10 backups on 10 different discs placed in 10 different houses wasn't enough (risk of fire, flood, theft, etc), and they absolutely needed to place all their files on a cloud solution!

And OF COURSE, all the files that get uploaded are analyzed, scanned, data mined.

Just like the video games, movies, music are becoming 100% digital, where people must forever pay monthly subscriptions, without ever owning whatever,
Companies push their cloud agenda crap over and over...
Like everything else, it's all about CONTROL

100% CONTROL people... by controlling their data.

Today we can buy a 4 or 8 gb usb stick, for 1 or 2 bucks. If the fire really scares someone, ne can easily buy several usb sticks and USB drives...
    But no.
Companies want people to store their crap where they can 100% control it.

People already have a GPS over them, 24/7... Companies and governments can remotely activate mics and cameras, record everything and upload to their servers (isn't it strange, that no apple/android or 3rd party app exists, that allows enabling/disabling the mic and cameras, and logging all activity.... ? That way, mics and cameras can be accessed by anybody who uses the backdoors, without the user even knowing it ! )... people store everything on their smartphones.... people post each second of their life, on social media... people ACCEPT to put spies disguised as home assistants, in their homes.... all their emails are read and analyzed.... even the 'translate' tool in android, sends everything to the Google servers.... when we copy something to the clipboard, and open chrome, the browser reads everything, and sends to Google servers... soon, our doors, windows, locks, internet- controlled versions will be mandatory, by the insurance companies... soon, cars will be controlled by some global server...
Basically, companies and governments ALREADY have 99% of our lives, under control. They read, see, listen, control everything.
But hey.... those documents, letters, invoices, etc etc, non digital photos, etc, they don't have access to those... YET

Say HELLO to the cloud services. Sheep will eventually store 100% of their files, on some cloud service.
Little by little, apps and Operating Systems will slowly start to move... hide... and eventually get rid of the 'save file as' option, and ultimately, the only possible choice will be " save to cloud 1", "save to cloud 2"...

And just like apple got rid of the flash tech, because "it slowed down safari", apple, microsoft, google, will eventually disable saving files to a usb drive , for "security" reasons , and people will only be able to save files to the flash memory.... automatically SYNCED with their cloud...
... until finally the apple device no longer have some flash memory, and only uses the cloud (an ipad would be like a vm machine, with just enough flash memory for the firmware, OS and future updates (like a gaming console), that would be synced with their servers, via a ultra fast internet connection...

    Wow, another big comment.
People can downvote it, no problem :)

Cloud services are just a fancy name for client-server. This was how computing started out with Unix, most stuff ran in the "cloud" mainframe back then and you used a terminal to access it. Then Apple came along with their "home computer" which put the server in the home, breaking the global monopoly companies like IBM had planned. They wanted everything by subscription like cable companies. They thought people would rather buy cheap terminals than expensive computers. Now we have Google for the cheap surveillance tech (Chromebooks). Meanwhile Microsoft and Abobe are trying to resurrect IBM's plan of client-server subscription services with all the rent-to-use cloud software now. IT'S A TRAP. You're going to be paying subscriptions for what you used to get for a one time price AND they're going to be spying on you through it, as well as stealing your cloud data. Something really needs to be done about what the US tech industry is plotting, people need to be warned.

Virgin goverment that spies on you VS. Chad goverment that feeds you with propaganda to make you voluntarily post all your data
Back when the Snowden Files were released it was mostly IT nerds who were outraged but when someone says that liberal college professors are cultural marxists subverting our society the whole internet goes apeshit :deep_facepalm:

For this part I must disagree:

Although I was clearly born before 1995, I have to admit that in the early days of the public internet I was very bona fide and made many of my data freely available. For example, the pictures of my children could be seen on my private homepage. There my address was also freely available - due to the domain registration.

Being more careful with my data began later with the accumulation of bad experiences.

Perhaps the difference to people born after 1995 is that we were still capable of learning from new experiences at that time and today, with finishing highschool, peoples personality is finalized and they don't seem to need further learning.

What you describe were terminal sessions between a terminal and a server (LAN/WAN). Client server architectures were developed later generally to allow tasks to be distributed inside a network.
