Okay, my guesses are kinda vague, as they are based off of nothing more than what my experiences with the EQs have been and, though I've used them all to varying extents, I've used Equilibrium the most as a go-to and Nova, lesser, for more small, subtle uses, but here goes:

    #1 Equilibrium or LP10,
    #2 Nova or Orange
    #3 Nova or Orange
    #4 Equilibrium or LP10

I know I'm not getting any points for non-answers, which is what these are, and that's fine, but that's as close to confident as I can get from my experience. Part of my assessements, outside of listening to what I thought I needed to be listened for (mid-highs and highs,) were based on which track I thought the overall elements sounded best in, which were #1 and #4, so my guesses reflect that.
By the by, the song would have been easier to A/B (or A/B/C/D ) if you had split it into individual tracks for each EQ. :)

:woot: I really cannot believe it, I made my own tests with the source file and found orange and ddmf to be the best, tdr trying to hype the highs and dmg similar to TDR but with a smoother sound in the highs. So expect more tests coming your way:guru:. The interesting part is that, while DDMF and Orange were checked to be truly linear phase, using the same Q and freq increments they sound notoriously different(as no avenger mentioned). DDMF has a boxy sound suitable for Electronic Music which is why I got it right after listening to it on my tests, Orange has some snap and I think it has more neutral sound ... These posts are great to develop an ear to our tools, they are fun, thx

In the Settings you can also switch DMG Audio EQuilibrium to linear phase, which I of course did.

frankly, I am still recovering from this thread but once I am ready, I will try that DMG eq in linear phase.

Haha, thanks for the link. I was just about to whine & bitch about the lack of The Reveal. :shalom:
And, mine are still non-answers but, after the reveal, at least not terribly skewed. :dunno:

And, no, it's not. Not now, not ever. For that price, I want hardware.

It wasn't meant to exhaust you, I'm sorry to hear that. But I'm confident you'll recover soon. :winker:

Funny, I did not like 1 (= Equilibrium) and liked 2 the most (TDR Nova).
My brain's working memory did not have the capacity to really judge 3 and 4 in relation to 1 and 2, but I thought that 3 and 4 sounded alright.

By the way, could you make a version 2 of this blind test? This time with a few changes:

    • include IKJB QRange
    • not specifically name the EQs that are in the race beforehand to the electorate (may sound like a contradiction to my first bullet point)
    • don't ask users to identify one specific product, but rather start a poll: "which one sounds best"
    • this time with a 2 bar acoustic drumloop, and a 2 bar acoustic full mix that are both time aligned and have the exact same loudness to begin with

    • lkjb QRange is free, you can try it yourself - with the additional challenge/opportunity to match the sounds.
    •, sounds like a contradiction. :winker:
    • Most members already stated which EQ they liked the most (like you did).
    • What would an acoustic drum set change? Isn't the orchestra acoustic enough? If it's because of the loudness you can easily dl and cut the track to adjust the starting level.
Nonetheless I'll take your suggestions into consideration if/when I make another test.

    @No Avenger

By the way, could you make a version 2 of this blind test? This time with a few changes:

    • Use no less than sixteen EQs; this will sort the men from the boys; none of that whiny "It's Equilibrium or Orange," crap.
    • Put random Compressors after the EQs, all with different setting. Anyone who knows what an EQ sounds like should be able to recognize the compressor, deduce the settings (4:1 w/ 0.10 Attack, etc.,) and compensate their assessment accordingly.
    • Use tracks that border on un-listenable. The challenge of noting musical curves increases when the track sounds like a robot orgy.
    • Savagely berate those who are struggling to identify the EQs. This will ensure only elite audiophiles will haunt the post.

    Let the games begin.... :winker:

I meanwhile made a little nulltest with thEQorange (lifetime purchase incl VAT 670€ :suicide: :suicide: :suicide:) vs lkjb QRange free [IMG] [IMG] [IMG].

I adjusted the slopes with PluginDoctor, both peak at -0,1dB FS and this is the result (I can provide the audio file, but I don't think it's necessary, it's hardly audible).

lkjb uses ~ 30% less CPU and ~ 40% less latency.
