As far as I understand so far, the main difference between these two e-guitar plugins is whether you can create/edit the notes in the plugin or in DAW built-in piano roll.

Ample offers Riffer and Strummer which let you can create/edit the notes.
Most of Shreddage workflow is presented in the piano roll of DAW.

Somehow, I have had a hard time understanding of Ample style. Some people said that Ample Sound offers the best tool to create/edit the notes/riff, but not to me so far. I can create/edit it with Shreddage and MusicLab guitars pretty quickly, but not with Ample.
I would like to listen to your opinion.

The Strummer is an insane time saver for rhythm parts. You set chords and let them play in the style you want.

    upload_2020-5-24_10-0-47.png

This is how it looks like and how it sounds is attached.

The part contains alternate strumming, harmonics and chord slides.
Try to do this in shreddage. It's a mess.
And imagine it on a whole song. YEARS of work I can say.

Good job! One thing I picked Shreddage is that Ample Guitar sounds like the synth instead of the guitar. I'm talking about electric guitars, but not acoustic ones. Well, all of them are based on synth tho...lol. Plus, creating lead part is kinda tricky.

For lead parts I'd use the tabulator feature as long as they have no complicated slides or not available articulations.

The synth sound in my experience is heavily based on the amp sim. I've had the best results for rock with th-u "plexi voice 1" amp so far. Th-u really has some grid other amp sim's doesn't to my experience. In addition I can advice to use the ownhammer cab IR's instead of the build in ones of your amp sim.

Tabulator? Do you mean Tab Player in Ample Guitar? The reason why I have a hard time using Ample Guitar is Tab Player as I'm not familiar with it.
BTW, I'm kinda interested in learning Ample Guitar again as you said that. Will give it a shot when I'm free. Thanks!

no offence dude but that Mixdown.mp3 sounds terrible, amp sim wise. S3 Hydra is the most realistic electric guitar to date. Ample was my favorite until shreddage stratus appeared, and now with hydra it's even better.

I'll add my two cents here because I mostly agree with the others.
Ample Sound guitars have a dedicated VSTi with those incredibly useful features that aren't just possible with a Kontakt library.
So it's Ample Sound merit, not Shreddage demerit.
Shreddage sound better mainly because they have a lot more samples.

Ah, and about IRs, I agree that OwhHammer's are very likely the best. But if you don't want so many quantity check out the Celestion ones too.

Celestion are the core of most cabs (the actual speaker so to speak) and their IRs are more easy to use. There're less quantity and friendly named like celestion-V30__high_gain_etc.wav.

That's not to say that OwnHammer doesn't have this, they have a mix-ready section or domething like that too.

To my ears, Stratus sounds similar to Jupiter. The sound of Serpent is too thin and Rogue sounds kinda too dark. Hydra sounds pretty good, but the file size is too big for a single guitar plugin.

I use Shreddage Legacy (the oldest 6-string) in my ancient computer so I can start to play it the same day I start to load the library.
And don't get me started with the last Fluffy Audio Dominus Pro Choir because I'll cry...
    :lmao:

PS. Anybody else looking forward to try the new 8-string Ample Sound HellRazer?

Hey, Xupito. I would like to ask you something. It's an off-topic though. I created a pinch squeal sound with Shreddage 3 Jupiter. The keyswitch I used was pinch harmonics and sustain. I have no idea what else can make it. Anyway, it sounds good in the beginning, but the sound doesn't stay long. It's suddenly down after 1-2 sec. The velocity of the note is max. I would like to make it longer like 5-6 seconds. Any idea?

Pinch harmonics are fully sampled from a real guitar/guitarist, so you can't make them longer. They're an individual articulation, no combination with sustains or others.
Perhaps with harmonics plus manual (pitch wheel) vibrato? And perhaps a bad-ass (long) distortion could do the trick

    Check out this nice site:

I personally don't like the Tremolo of Hydra at all. Jupiter or Serpent Tremolo works better than that. Samples are a bit cleaner but no matter what I do I get lots of hiss with TH-U when trying to achieve high gain tones, unless If I do something wrong, But I experimented very much. I achieved a great Black Metal tone with Jupiter and Serpent but there is lots of hiss. I managed to get rid some with EQs but more than that it hurts the good guitar tones together with the hiss. If anybody knows a good way to avoid that, please let me know. :P

Some settings that add "realism" could be the cause. Right off the bat I only can think in the DI line noise for example, but I'm sure there're others.

Thanks, but I found the solution. The sustain wasn't helpful. The repeat keyswitch made it longer.

Hydra is really good, but it lacks in the tremolo section, as rouge and jupiter exceede

Yeah I think it must be the DI line noise like they didn't record the samples well without eliminating backround noises or I just do something wrong. Or maybe TH-U is for blame or my fault not setting it correctly :P. I don't know but I tried to make a Black Metal Riff with Serpent and spent a lot of time to EQ as best I could but I still get hiss no matter what I do. I think Serpent's tremolo sounds a little better than Hydra cause I tried to use Hydra in its place but it sounded a little bit worst in but also in terms of how the tremolo articulation behaves. It almost sounds like robot tapping. It's that bad. Also I tried to EQ very much the DI as well except after the Amp. The most hiss is coming when I activate TH-U I have to say. In reality it's like the recordings of the samples are bad cause I tried to turn up the volume a lot and you start hearing a small hiss from the recordings which is then boosted through TH-U of course then it creates a veil of hiss and hum behind the "good sounds" ruining the total sound. Wonder if I do something wrong in my fx chain workflow. I tried to search tutorials with Shreddage and High Gain sounds especially if someone might use the tremolo articulation but I didn't find any. I only managed to create a solo guitar sound style with Rogue which is kinda close to a real one. Seems like the clean sounds are much easier to accomplish compared to high gain "dirty" sounds. Here is an example. I played some random stuff. When using chords of course with tremolo it multiplies the hiss even more since its not really designed to play like power chords with tremolo. But I still played some of that just to show how it sounds with the settings I did. I can EQ and make most of the hiss go but it hurts the guitar sound as well and it sounds thin. -_- Warning: have the volume a little bit more decreased than normal cause it will be loud if you attempt to hear it. I am gonna try EQ it more ofc but just wanted to show how it sounds with the current settings. If anybody knows how to achieve a black metal sound like that style but without that much hiss with any Shreddage virtual guitars, I would like to know how. In the meantime I will keep trying to improve it...
