I've been struggling trying to find the right patch for a Funky Synth Bass part for a track I'm working on.
Think Prince, Bruno Mars. Any suggestions for a patch or software to use?

    cheers,
    BM

Keep in mind that for his bass sound, Prince used a combination of synths behind the bass guitar played by BrownMark. It was neither one or the other. It was a combination of both. He favored Oberheims and Moogs.Take it from there.

There are loads of lovely Reaktor (Monark et al) libs (including free ones) that will do it for you. +Modo bass (for 50/50 sound). Also Omnisphere hardware lib for samples. Also most synths by Synapse? Use Decapitator, too?

Well, funky sunth bass is defined by Bernie Worell on Flashlight and no right thinking people would deny it. There's several MiniMoog bass patches in Trilian that are very much in that vein. Also Diva, which is more tweakable.

    True.
Interesting though that both Viking and Moog Model D are available for free on iPhone and iPad, and they sound great!

There is one Mac software though that is better than everything I know on Windows:
Pulsar P900. I wish I could try this one, it's not available anymore and now belongs to Novation.

Hmm. Not exactly, vro. For the few albums pre-Purple Rain that Mark played on, this is not the case, and was definitely not done live either.
Admittedly there are tracks when P does layer synth and el bass though.
A good example of el bass and synth bass mixed is the Lowrell track 'Mellow, Mellow, Right On'.
Btw, my avatar pick is from Levi Seacer Jnr, who started playing bass for P in '87 and then went on to guitar when Sonny T joined to play bass in '91. Levi then worked in Studio A at Paisley Park for a short while, and eventually sued P for unpaid royalties.
