20200418_214943.jpg 20200418_215219.jpg ive actually updated my desk setup in the last week. when i built the desk i built it too tall and after ab an hour at my desk my shoulders would start aching like crazy so i got one of these mouse and keyboard pullouts and it's fucking awesome. and i have a ton more space on my desk now. i should have done it a long time ago

  2. To contrast your white, I've just added a pair of Tannoy Gold 8's.

  4. It's the stuff I sold a few years ago that keeps me up at night banging my fists into my head shouting "why? why? why?"

Yeah, that's some very desireable hardware to be sure. I dread to think what drove you to sell that ARP...

Saying that, these days you can get fairly close approximations of what you've lost (in both hardware and software) that even have native midi and patch recall too! :)

...and it's not as if you're too impoverished with your current rig - that's a nice setup, plenty good enough for you to practice your dark art!

  6. Oddly I don't miss the ARP or even the System 100's. My biggest regret was losing that perfectly constructed and maintained Elektor Formant. It sounded amazing. Actually it sounded even more amazing when I had the entire setup connected via the Kenton Pro. That gave me 10 oscillators simultaneously! Reason for selling. Usual story, split up with girlfriend, needed money. Such is life.

For me, it was the position of those Yamahas. They should be standing up. They are NOT NS10Ms.

@tylerv You did one hell of a job. Nice end result. Apart from the Yamahas not being standing up, as they should, I will move the seating position, and those rear-ported Yamahas farther away from the wall. There is going to be a dramatic improvement in the sound. The shape of your room is perfect for it. Take advantage of it. You are not losing much, and gaining a lot.

Thanks for the schooling! I've been playing and performing music since my teens (early thirties now), but I just started my often frustrating, occasionally rewarding recording journey a year and a few months back. I'll take all the advice I can get from the guys who know what they're talking about.

Given this was my set up almost exactly a year ago, if my biggest call out is monitor placement I'll take it haha

And just so you know that i actually listen ha…
    20200420_165042.jpg
And it's hard to tell from the photo but where the monitors were all but touching the acoustic treatment on the back wall before, I've moved them about a foot And a 1/2 off the back wall

@tylerv Monitor placement + listening position is crucial. You spend less time trying to fix your mixes, and they translate better. As I said earlier you have the luxury of a rectangle shaped room, I think you can afford to have the recommended 2-3 feet distance from the rear of your speakers to the wall. When you are sitting down for mixing, your head should form a equilateral triangle with your monitors, and the tweeters at ear level. Remember there are some settings at the rear of your Yamahas that you will need to tweak as well.Lastly, i will get some isolators to place the monitors on them. If possible will fill the monitor stands with sand, too.
