    Hey everyone,

Does Altiverb use a lot of CPU for anyone else? FL reports 30% CPU usage with a single instance on a blank project. Looking at the 'about' tab on Altiverb it reports an average CPU usage of 2-3%, but the max is anywhere between 25% and even 40%.

    Any suggestions?

Just the other way around here. For cathedrals Altiverb says ~ 9% max, Reaper says 0,7%. I'll stick with Reaper. [IMG]

EDIT: BTW, that's ~ half of PSP 27's consumption.

But certainly it isn't supposed to be that bad? There are obviously plenty of convolution reverbs that don't use nearly as much CPU, so how come Altiverb is like this?

@saboo You are asking for suggestions and you have not even informed us of your OS and CPU. One thing that you need to check on is whether you are running the FL64 or you are using the 32. You should be using the 64 one. 30% CPU usage with a single instance on a blank project is ridiculously high. Even on my test mule laptop with 4th gen Intel at 2Ghz is not even 3% and it is running.

    Reaper 6 performance meter capture:

Windows 10 task manager reports 21% maximum after 12 minutes of 1 bar loop repeating.

Reverb Master receiving from tracks 2 - 12
Diva & Serum playing 1bar MIDI loop.
SD3 playing internal groove synced to DAW
Tracks 5 - 12 have test tone with Alitverb XL on each

@quadcore64 What do you get without Diva & Serum? With a .wav file. And 20% of what? Without a reference % does not mean a thing.

I started with just 4 tracks of Altiverb which never got above 2.9% in Reaper to show how well Altiverb is as a convolution reverb.
Doubled to 8 tracks with the load never going above 5.6% in Reaper.

If you know anything about the CPU load of the shown instruments, you get why I used them.
The other tracks with the wave file test tone create a load on each instance of Altiverb.

The session was done in 48kHz 24 bit with a buffer of 64 samples (1.3 sec) as shown by the PDC.

On the system used, Pro Tools & Samplitude would most like give similar results. A few percent more at most.

I made a quick comparison of one instance on a wav:
    - Alti close to 0,7%
    - Waves IR1 full close to 0,5%
    - ReaVerb (IR) 0,4%

You could always use Altiverb as a send, rather than an insert. That way, you'd only need 2-3 instances max on an entire project. Also, a great deal of DAWs have pre-gen, which cuts down on the CPU load considerably. Finally, you could also utilize algorithmic reverbs for stuff that doesn't need to sound like it's being recorded in a real space. I only use Altiverb for orchestral stuff, or if I need a realistic room sound for a drum kit.
