I'm testing it, and I thought I'd compare it with Focisrite/Sonible Balancer. They are totally different kinds of plugins, but they both offer the same kind of no-nonsense, AI assisted rework of unwanted frequencies, with a €200 difference. Well, so far they ARE 200 euros different. The kind of refinement and sheen on a track is hard to describe. The sale is on for a couple of more days. I'll keep using it to make up my mind.

Is it, now? Ok, so I disliked the post of the guy who disagreed the post of another guy because he didn't explain.
    Easy peasy... :disco:
Well, not really. It's just another snob-elitist post

I agree that the disagreement is not always egregious and contextually continuous cognative caution has now been thrown to the wind of disingenuous digression. This probably is where Soothe can come in handy.

Brothers, I took this opportunity to upgrade Soothe. I'm glad that I did so.
This tool is not cheap, of course, but I find it is invaluable for my workflow.

Let me explain: I don't have a treated room, nor do I have the best microphones. I have the equipment that I was able to afford after many years of saving.

As such, sometimes my recordings are suboptimal and I have a hard time blending my own instruments with the libraries that I'd like. Or, sometimes, even the Kontakt libraries/VSTs are a little on the muddy/resonant side (AmpleSound nylon guitar and Cinematique Instruments are examples of this).

Of course, I could (and I did) work without Soothe and achieve similar results. (I've been making music for the past... fifteen years, more or less). But the workflow with Soothe is, for me, much more confortable. And, in the end, that's what tools are for: making some tasks less tedious or hard.

Remember: you CAN eat using only your hands, but, despite that, somebody felt the need to invent forks and spoons... :)

PS: Sorry for my English and feel free to ask anything about the plugin!

Thank you for your insight. Do you use it more as a corrective tool or as a sound shaper? Let me explain. I love Sonible Smart EQ+, but I don't always use it. If I don't like a source, I use it to shape its sonics. For my use, this is where it excels. However, I'd rather use a more transparent EQ to make a track fit in its context. It seems that Soothe does both things very well. Is that your experience with it?

Soothe is a little CPU intensive, so my prefered workflow is to use it on a instrument or bus and then bounce it. Soothe 2 is supposed to be less demanding and I've read some comments of people using it on 5+ tracks at the same time.

I really recommend you watching this video review (with good headphones and/or monitors). Very well done.

And be sure to demo it, so you can gauge the nuances in the plugins as regards your particular workflow.

Brother, I mainly use it as a corrective tool, because I have some problems with "standing waves" and some resonant instruments. But you could use its more extreme settings (or even the "Delta" mode, which reveals only the resonant material suppressed) to do sound designing. As far as tone shaping, I actually prefer Gullfoss. But those a very different tools, with very different applications, of course.

  13. I just bought it. Put it on a backing vocal multi-tracked chorus bus using their "de-honk" present and just tweaked the resonant frequencies to where the vocals were too intrusive. It's great watching it moving about altering the frequencies according to the pitch. That's where it's different. It keeps riding the gain of the bands that are too present. End result is like tape saturated glue.
And like Bud said, I also put it on the master out along with Gullfoss and I get a really polished mix.

uh oh - Gullfoss -you need iLok? even for trial? that is still being used? LOL

  16. There is still a myth going around that iLok needs a dongle. Download the licenser app, add your plugin when prompted, then the serial. Done. There's nothing sinister about iLok. The dongle is only if you want to take your plugins with you if are working in different locations.
