Hey all! So there's this app called AutoRap by Smule. My kids and I have been playing with it for years. It's from the guys that used to autotune the news (ie Hide yo kids hide yo wife). It seems to work by moving recorded audio to pre-recorded midi notes pitch and timing... essentially creating songs and melodies out of nonsense. Fun to play with...especially for kids (like me haha). But I've always wondered how it works so quickly and instantly. I have used midi notes to trigger autotune before.. but it doesn't actually "move" or re-time the audio like this app does. Does anyone know a way to reproduce this in a DAW? This is 100% curiosity and not for any real purpose other than I'm wondering how they did it.
I dont what you mean by this Thats basically how any autotune plugin on the market works. If you use an ASIO interface and set the tuning speed to fast (5-10 ms) and choose a scale, you'll hear the results instantly. I used to play with Smule apps when I was a teen. I Am T-pain, Autorap, Magicpiano, etc. It was fun but not enough for me and thats how I ended up doing what I do now lol.
