That is a f*cking insensitive and awful thing to say to another person. :snuffy:

    Oh, hi!

    Erm … Danielle!?

    (Danielle? … Denise? … Dolores?)

I'd completely forgotten about you until now!

Makes me sound like a bloody music executive.

    (Pause)

And Danielle is such a nice name. Danielle is the French female variant of the male name Daniel, meaning "God is my judge" in the Hebrew language. At least Wikipedia says so. And we all now Danielle. I mean she's in the Bible. No, really! She survived a night in a den of wolves. Cool.

Lynda Lunch is cool, cool, cool
    Not that popular either.

Danielle is bit a make up pretty thing (arty cult)...not saying, but you know I prefer bigger mouths and less an act .

In the UK she is cult (granny cult) And all are going with the memory process.
On the Guardian, they are saying...well whatever is now but we had a precedent.
Danielle was famous in her moment! too pretty...too sleek, but that was the thing of Goths and New Romantics.
I prefer the stripped and worn, the trouble makers.

And talking about bibles I´ve found a very interesting mag listing the bands 1977-1985.
I could be posting on here for the eternity if I need to..shocking...shocking stuff!

    @Feridan:

By the way a bit on the etymology side:

(Danielle? … Denise? … Dolores?) are these names coming from similar root, designating similar idea?
Asking you because I see you have already done research

In a way, I´m interested in the period because the band phenomena. (the distinctive strategy of those times, slightly different today)
Specially, the small band antiestablishment phenomena and its spread and merchandising.
I´m not a specialist in the relationship btw popular music - media - consumerism - cult - mass identity but obviously that happened in the past and it is still there. Besides the majority of modern heroes are sourced from these grounds…(movies, sport, music)

Recently I´ve seen a video on German Krautrock, among many interesting things, it commented something on D. Bowie.
I saw that guy singing maybe for the release clip - from one of his albums, recorded in Germany - acting as a hero (with all the charms of the mythological form of doing it !).
I imagine he was a hero around the world at the time, and all what he did was singing in a more or less noticeable cockney accent for the masses!
    That´s it!

Most of those artists develop a kind of "Psychopomp" neurasthenia. The strange behavior of the VIP. There is a constant need of differentiation.
So to be a public image usually implies a constant demonstration that by fame, by attention someone can be different, out the prosaic time, let´s say timeless.
That is a modern myth. Popularity as passport to power. (still in a very primitive form implying sexual power, hierachy, dinasty ==> to say Beyonce, Madonna,Jagger)
When someone is timeless tends to awake a certain level of either “darshan-ism” – cult- or even cannibalism. :dunno:
Here is the chopping, media chopping. This shouldn´t be natural to music, but certainly happens and it has been pursued by the music industry, in full intentionality.
There is an educational default on teaching ppl how to recognize the authority, the superiority that can be milked for ages.

And guys like that had left such footprint in the collective psychology, whining about things, taking the small case to the universal.

And in fact the thing is so artificial that the domain of all those messages are encapsulated in generational divides,
even worse, time lapses that sometimes reflect technology but not message, or technological messages like today.
There are so many variables in fact: the sense of novelty, the sense of nothing if you like, the futility of a song, of a moment...blah...blah.
But my point is this nothingness (banality) is not just profitable, we have an active interest of transforming it to an archetypical reference!

    Ah, etymology!

Dolores is Spanish in origin (from Maria de los Dolores), from the plural of the Latin 'dolor' (meaning pain or sorrow).

Lola and Lolita by the way both derive from Dolores.

Denise is the female variant of Dennis. From the French 'Denis', but ultimately from the Greek 'Dionysos', probably via Dionysius Exiguus a 6th century monk from what is today the Bularian/Romanian Dobruja region.

Danielle is derived from from the Hebrew male name Daniyél, then via the Greek Daniíl.

Always good to know where words come from:
    Code:

Dionysius Exiguus also came up with the Anno Domini reference point in calendars. He calculated a date far in the future when there was a significant planetery allignment (The Great Conjunction of the year 2000) and then counted backwards to arrive at 1 (for 1 AD) for the year in which Jesus was born. Back then people believed an astrological age to last 2000 years. So the birth of Jesus had to mark the beginning of a new age. It is thought that he was wrong by a few years regarding the birth of Jesus, but the system stuck.

Interesting to look at the word Dominus as well. Which means master but it comes from domus meaning house. hence, master of the house. But domus itself comes from the root demh (via dom) which means 'to build'.
