fullsizeoutput_914.jpeg and thats just based on sheer proximity... i was in a few bands when i was in my teens and early 20's. im in my early 30's now with wife/kid, big boy job, house, the whole shabang. in the last few years i started craving having an outlet for creating music. picked up a focusrite solo and a mb pro about a year ago and its become an obsession... i came into it just wanting a barebones way to get songs out in a hurry and its taken on a whole chunk of my brain, time, (not to mention converting my barn into a studio.)

so like i said im totally new to recording (ab a year) but ive been progressing quickly (to my ear at least) bc of all the time im spending on it. this song isnt finished but its getting close. ill probably do some more vocal takes to correct some parts im not totally happy with. ive been very reluctant to show anyone any of my stuff bc of the judgement thing but im to the point where im starting to realize not letting anyone hear anything im doing is hindering growth.

take a listen, be gentle, criticize constructively. :disco:

i perform, mix, master, etc. 100% of the piece. im semi confident in my composition/writing skill but not so much in the mixing mastering end of things. that is definitely where i could use the most feedback.

cheers everyone and thanks for your time

I really loved that break halfway in. Thought that was awesome and unexpected. It's that "part you look forward to" in a song.
As for the mix, it sounds a bit muffled, like covered with a thin cloth. Not sure whether it's too much compression, not enough highs, or more likely, too much in the lower mids eq spectrum. There are probably others who can spot it better.

    nice listen,
    a well structured composition.
you're right though, not finished yet.
the raucous guitar break all seems a bit muddy to me, but elsewhere I liked the washy verbs around the strong, convincing vocals.
keep it up and welcome to the forum.

    First things first: congrats
I only did a quick first look (hearing) and I like it.
Sure there's mixing improvements to be done, but you have good stuff there. You can fix mixing mistakes. You can't fix composition ones.

thanks for the feedback scrappy. i was kindof going for a bit of chaos in that part but im sure bringing out some clarity would help there. ill revisit.

thanks! that unexpected break that catches you off guard was exactly what i was going for. i was trying to make it dynamic so that the song didnt lose steam or get boring. ill get the mix figured out for sure though. hopefully you can take a listen when its actually complete

    Sounds pretty good bruh.
I listened as a listener so i don't have anything to say about the mix.If something sounds off to YOU then YOU should correct it.After all, it's your music.

    Sounds good to me though.:like:

I like the song.. as for the production, there is quite a lot of digital clipping going on... i would suggest to turn your levels down a fair bit before you start mixing.. a good start will be something between -12 to -18 db .. you can bring the levels up again in the end. and check the audio files you recorded. hopefully the clipping didn't happen during the recording because then you might have to record some of it again.. maybe you can just swap out the parts where it clips badly though..
musically it is a very nice piece though

Bravo. I like it a lot. The vocals' timbre reminds me of Linkin Park's late Charles Bennigton somehow, meant as a compliment rather than a comparison. Mix issues, levels and some incosistencies on performance keep this from sounding really pro, but all these can be fixed. You have a really good vocal range, i'd try a more fx stripped approach on vocal producing, have faith in your pure vocal tone, imho it's really good.
I can imagine it's hard to be 30+ with a family, kids and a proper job and still want to make music. Fek i didn't get married till i was 45 and that was 8 yrs ago. Always had some new goal to pursue. But since you are here, do your thing mate. Life's too short.
    All the best :)

nice song/track @tylerv  & thank you for sharing !
    * some friendly tips(&hope this info helps you) :
always remember to eq/low cut your reverb,
that way you can get rid of some of the "muddiness" & compress it(the reverb) a bit if you haven't already.
Use a de-esser on your vocals more strongly if you haven't already.
m/s processing will help your bass part come more in the center/mono.
The hi end of the spectrum of the track when the drums & guitar come in sound a bit harsh imho
If you're not very into mixing/mastering (at this time & stage) a plugin like Brainworx bx refinement,on your master bus can help you de harsh your high frequencies :

Great work once again & your vocals are very good, have a great day !
