when you visit Reaper website, on top bar there's following info shown:

If you are working remotely and/or social distancing and would like to use REAPER at home, you can download a temporary REAPER license: http://cockos.com/reaper/reaper_2020_temporary_license.txt

contents of the file as follows:

This is a temporary license key valid through the end of June 2020, offered to those working remotely and/or
social distancing who want to use REAPER from home.

REAPER can import your license key automatically if you copy the following text to your clipboard:

Where's the benefit? You can download Reaper trial version and run it forever without any limitations.
Additionally this is a Commercial version which is more expensive. So, if you want to go legit after the expiration you have to pay more.

it's about the mindset - a company giving away free licenses for everyone for the sake of home office and social distancing encouragement,
after expiration you get back to "unlimited trial" mode, no pushing towards purchase of full license

I didn't say that, so with what exactly do you disagree?

Reaper has been the best choice I've ever made, I miss nothing in Ableton or FL studio, I tried pro tools and mixcraft but they seem to be too limited, mixcraft is pretty good tho, only minimal DRM which I like but stability and Flexibility drove me to reaper.:woot:

Sometimes people just make me want to nuke the entire fucking planet.

Slagging Justin off for trying to offer some help to musicians in the only way he can is just pathetic.

And no hes not forcing you to upgrade to the commercial version, theres only one version and if you did decide to pay for a lisence after using it, you can just downgrade to the cheaper version using a cheaper version keyfile and its registered.

This allows you to use the software (which is great) with no nag box making you wait 5 seconds. I know it might not seem like a lot, but that 5 second box adds up over time (if you don't already have a license). It's just a nice thing for them to do. And when it's over and you wanna pay the $60 dollars, you can. You don't have to buy a commercial license. You just click "remove license" in Reaper then go to their website and buy a $60 license. Simple as can be. Super nice of Justin and the Cockos team.

You said, "So, if you want to go legit after the expiration you have to pay more". That's not true at all. They have no financial motive other than being awesome people.

"You can download Reaper trial version and run it forever without any limitations."

You're right. You can just use Reaper without paying. However, that's not how it's supposed to be done. Justin and the Cockos team runs on a 'trust' policy. You are expected to buy a $60 license after the trial period. They do this because they don't want to bog down the user with usb licenser b.s. and believe that once you give Reaper the full trial you will be more than happy to pay the $60. It's not a free DAW, contrary to what people may think.

    What's going on here???

I didn't slag off anyone and never said this isn't a nice move. It's just unnecessary and has no real benefit, apart form saving 5secs.
And I was especially referring to
So it was just a reminder if you want to go legit after that to take care not to buy the commercial version, nothing more nothing less.
So please, stick to what I really wrote!

And btw, I'm a legit owner of Reaper!

    Not trying to cause any trouble or chaos, but that comment makes it seem like you think Cockos and Reaper are doing it for financial motives or being greedy. I would say maybe 2% of people buy a commercial license (if that) and this certainly doesn't make a user buy one. But hey, no hard feelings. There's enough drama/chaos in this world right now, I just wanted to point out that in no way do you have to buy a commercial license if you use their temporary license. Glad you're a Reaper user, and hope you're doing well during these strange times. Again, I don't mean to cause any drama or anything--and I don't think you did either. Anyway, take care and stay safe during these weird time. I'm just glad we still have music (;
