Which plugins that generates og manipulates midi are your favorites?

    For me it's:
Scaler by Plugin Boutique (The drag feature is great for creating chords quickly)
    Midi Madness 3 (For inspiration)

Not plugins, but the only reason I use Rewire to Reason from Ableton:
    Dual Arpeggiators (Reason)
    Note Echo (Reason)

One aspect of midi generation that is often overlooked is the use of 'styles' packages, i.e., packages where you feed your chord progression in and ask the package to generate a stylistic midi output, e.g., rock style or jazz style, or whatever genre you want.
Styles packages can produce... (worst case) a horrible cheesy mess, or (best case) something inspirational, or something in between, and they can definitely be fun to explore. Forget about getting lazy 'finished results' out of these packages but they can 'sometimes' generate interesting ideas to be creative with.

I've been using Kontakt lately. Enable script generated CCs and notes in Engine Settings and turn the volume down or remove the samples altogether then pull the MIDI into your favorite synth or what have you.

To mangle my midi parts and create happy accidents, i use my hands on the keyboard. Sometimes i roll my face across it too if im REALLY tired that day. results are as random as you want them!

in all seriousnes tho, the only tools i use for manipulating the midi is either as a Arp or as a "change pitch by 1 octave up or down". I prefer to be in control of any melodic og harmonic element in the track.
If i want "randomness" i listen to some music for inspiration and go from there. If that doesnt work (listning to music) i go into "noodle mode" i guess. sitting with the keys and just play around untill something sticks.

just play and have fun :)

So, no feet? no slapping your plonker on the keys? Why so restrained? :dunno:

Agree 100% - just letting your brain ramble - that's the most satisfying :like:

I agree that playing around is very satisfying, but it is also possible to let your brain ramble and roll your face on the keyboard with 9 arpeggiators connected :)

I love just playing around with keys, but most of the time I have some sort of midi generator connected. Probably 90% of the midi I produce cannot be played in real time by a human, anyway.

That's a cool option. I even considered the possibility of using Kontakt as a programmable MIDI effect.
But the syntax is like hell. So if I'm gonna die I might as well do it like a boss in a blaze of glory using Cockos (Reaper) ReaJs instead:rofl:

I couldn't resist following up on that tip, and found these
    https://www.nilsliberg.se/ksp/scripts/tutorial/
    https://www.admiralbumblebee.com/music/2018/02/08/Write-a-Reaper-MIDI-JSFX-from-scratch.html
So, your 'syntax nightmare' choice between NI's KSP and Reaper's JSFX seems like
choosing between eating a cat's litter tray or eating a dog's breakfast.
I'm sure your masochism will guide you well. :winker:

Just adding another one, Song Wish - reMIDI. I have so many midi files that using this kinda helps them get used. I bought it cheap off Plugin Boutique on sale.

If you map your midi packs right, this thing is insane.

I found one just yesterday that is without question the best arpeggiator I've ever played with.

Nora by Squaredheads. Also on the sister site.

I tried it, I found it slightly buggy but full of potential. Really sad it's abandonware. :(

EDIT: Re-installed in default location and working properly now.

I once recorded about 10 tracks of random midi notes in the same key, and then I slowed down the tempo while muting and soloing the different tracks. Surprisingly I found a few useful motifs that could be used as song ideas, so there is some method in your madness!

    Midi Madness 3 is interesting.

For Reaktor users here's something fun to do:
    1. Load any Reaktor .ens
    2. Look inside modules (at the highest level possible) to find Pitch and Gate outputs
    3. From your Factory Reaktor (Blocks) Library, load the INT-MIDI Out.ism Block (Reaktor Blocks > Library > Util)
    4. Connect the Pitch and Gate outs to the ins (P → P, G → G)
    5. Disconnect any audio outputs
    6. Hit play on transport (or Internal Clock)

This works on basically any ensemble. It does not have to be a Blocks patch.
This is the INT-MIDI Out.ism Block:

There are also modified modules in the User Library like this and more.
