Today I woke up a moment after my wife and daughter left the house and walked the dog. 45 minutes later when we came back I gave my pooch a treat and we played for a few minutes in the living room before I made a cup of coffee (French press). I picked up my jumbo 1980 Ibanez J-540NT which is currently tuned to DGDGCC and capoed on the 2nd fret and worked on new voicings for a song I'm newly composing. About an hour later I grabbed my 1992 Roy Noble cedar/Brazilian and played it for about a half hour as I hadn't played her for about two weeks bcause I have been focusing in on breaking in my year old Martin D-18 and getting to know her quirks and personality after I filed down the nut slots even with the first fret. It feels different...much easier playing but different enough to warrent renewed focus. After playing I cleaned up my daughter's room (dusting and vacuumed after she tidied up yesterday in anticipation of my putzing intrusion). I then vacuumed the other rooms of our apartment. Next was making lunch for my daughter, her friend and I. I made us big salads, cut slices of fresh ruchbrot and made a platter of local sausage and regional cheeses from Appenzeller. After lunch I walked the dog again. 45 minutes later I heated up some water for another cup of coffee and did the lunch dishes. I gave the dog the sides of the cheese that I cut for lunch, sat in the back yard in the welcomed mid February sunshine again able to caress the yard in warmth after a shadowed long winter sabbatical and wrote this post.
I am a crappy composer, but I record and mix for artists. I mostly record musicians in a room and use software instruments to augment and/or correct performances. I'm a gigging bass player and even though I've had recording sessions in commercial recording studios, I really don't have experience working at the big leagues. All I know has been learned through trial and error. I've received tons of help from the great folks here at AS. You guys have helped me grow. @theBadger happy stay at one of the most diverse and feature-rich places on the Web.
I pretend to be a DJ but I'm not I sometimes do electro stuff on Ableton - which I tried to learn along with other softs like traktor with the intention to go live - but it failed miserably because that wasn't my path ( maybe one day, though ) all this made me have more respect for real musicians who DJ their music and realize how much it's much more than actually pressing play, even if sometimes it's the case. I've worked with filmmakers to compose soundtracks for their sh*t but it was just another way for me to escape reality and be "realistic" now I keep composing / recording my own songs - which I'm not interested to share here AT ALL; not because I don't think it's good, some of it is, some of it isn't, but because I finally found myself, am happy and I don't need validation anymore : I'm grateful when it sells and people like it. it's been a learning curve and the most difficult was to have the courage to accept my voice and sing - which was terrifying to me - but that was the way, and it took me years to embrace it. I had to battle and go through addiction(s), depression(s), soul-searching and sickness before I accept it ... like they say in Oz " I learned Alphabet the hard way: DEA, HIV, IOU " ( never got fooked in the arse by a big buy in jail, tho but this I won't miss ) doing my sh*t in Logic, on a Mac... last step will be to learn & play drums when I can afford it, find a band and go live

I love writing DnB/ Jungle/hard house/uk garage,/Neurofunk/ i use ableton 10.1.6 mainly, and am testing cubase 10 pro out a bit, but abletons killer for sound design and workflow, ive way too many plugins to list, ive imported all plugins from fl 20 and cubase 10 into ableton too..... Personally i find DnB the most technically difficult genre to program.. And i dont use drumloops from sample packs or basses from em either.... I recently upgraded from a burnt out acer aspire 1st gen i5, to a lenovo thinkpad 2nd gen i7, which i ended up cooking the cpu, and now im on a desktop, 6th generation dell optiplex 17 skylake processor, Which is insanley fast, i can run 30 instances of serum, and not hit 30% cpu......... I love writing any genre tbh, Back in the day "2002" i was into trance and had an extremely well known tune on all the ministry albums etc etc, stolen, tiz a long story...but true.. Then i had wall to wall hardware, and was using an atari st first running cubase, and then an amd k6 i think, slow as hell , running emagik logic.........."damn i miss them days coz i lost it all due to my stupidity and certain addictions n depression ive struggled with to this day!!
