Every once in a while when a new Roland Cloud product gets released on sister site, it's always a momentous occasion for a lot of us including me. BUT! Those releases always get polluted by UNJUSTIFIED hate comments toward Roland Cloud.

There was that one time i saw an unofficial TB-303 clone on sister site, to which i actually asked why people would bother developing one, followed by an user telling me that "Roland Cloud is expensive on the long run"

(ZOMGWTFBBQ 20 dollars a month really is a big deal).

So let's disregard Roland Cloud for a while and look at what other companies have for pricing.

I see East West have their Composer Cloud service for 20 dollars a month! (Even 40 dollars for Composer Cloud Plus!) But no one complains.

Korg released version 2 of their Legacy Collection Bundle for 400 dollars. But no one complains.

Spitfire audio charges a thousand! Dollars! for BBC Orchestra and up to 1800 dollars for the Scoring Professional bundle! But no one complains.

Soundiron sells their Omega bundle for 6! THOUSAND! GODDAMN! DOLLARS!

    But no one complains.

Roland Cloud markets probably hundreds of thousand bucks worth of synths with a 20 dollars monthly subscription like East West does: everyone goes apeshit.

The FUCK! is wrong with you people?

    Hi Skull,

Personally I don't like the subscription model myself and would prefer the option to buy.
Maybe that is where some people dislike the Roland Cloud thing?
Also, some of the plugins are a bit CPU hungry and needed to be better optimised, but they do sound good.

    Best wishes

No subscription model should cost more than 9.99/mo. Unless it is a rent to own situation. Nobody cares about those products from the other companies maybe that is why nobody is bashing them. :dunno:

Its a shame there isn't an option to buy the 808 or 909 because they are the best. It would seem to me that Roland loses money with this sub only option.

I don't believe in renting anything. I decide what I want then go out and buy it, or I knock next door on the sister site!

I just want to say, Nobody complains about East West being $20 because of the ungodly amount of instruments you get and the quality they are.
$20 for normal or $40 For multi mic'd instruments..
I think people just expect too much out of roland... They are known for synths of the old days..

I was just thinking about something like this the other night.... All of us are constantly reaching for the Neve's, API, SSL, Juno's 808's....
What the hell are we doing? lol
We are slowing the advancement of the thing we love so much,

I got a little off topic.. but East West is fantastic deal, so is Roland.
But I think people purchase The Roland cloud looking to hear 2020 out of 80s stock...

Even the release of the Triton VST.. its DEAD on and it was super fun to keyaround for a day... But it still has not found its way into a beat yet.. just sounds like the 00's...

For real though, There is no comparison between Roland cloud and East West.
That's like comparing your local Guitar Shop to the sweetwater HQ.
Yea your shop as a few nice things.. but EW...has... SOOOOOOOO much more.

yeah im on EW nuts hard... idc If you've ever purchased a month and been through a fraction of the instruments youd be too..

This whole renting business model is just wrong and should be boycotted.
Of course, only a minority of people will do so, this is why companies like Avid, Eastwest or Adobe are able to justify this ripoff.

It reminds me of Bill Gates at the beginning of the 80s when the guy was trying to license MS Basic to a company called Commodore which told him to get lost. Unfortunately this was the only company to do so at the time and the whole industry was dumb enough to accept this scheme...

We can see the result today where it's almost impossible to buy a new laptop without having to pay for this Microsoft windows license.

If everybody moved to a software subscription model, then I would buy hardware :bleh:

I don't like subscription models either, as I work sporadically with some gear or software, and then don't for months, and I don't wanna pay attention to "pausing" and "unpausing" payment etc... i get it works for them with cp probably a bit better (but looking at sister site and Team VR and whatnot.. nope....)...

But i do like the Roland Cloud, or it's offerings. I got the early stuff when you could "own" it, like the System 1, SH101 SH2, Promars, System 100 etc.. and I'm keeping those as is... but as long as Roland keeps putting out new stuff on it (and I think it's time they got BOSS involved and started making some damn FX plugins... those are RIPE for the taking for them....)...

but yeah, i think they sputtered it a bit on release, and i don't think Jeremy's involvement with it helped anything, if not set it back tremendously...

haha good one. I think we all agree almost nobody likes subscription models with no reasonable priced buy option.
I'm afraid is the future, it makes more money.

Since when having a opinion was a federal crime?

    That might sound about right.

Old pot makes the best soups. And thank God i'm not.

More seriously, i get everyone's side of the deal but this is just like going to your local 99 Cents Store and yell at the owner because they can't make it cheaper. He can't, else it's downhill for him!

If you want to use Roland Cloud, just subscribe and give it a rest already.
