Here's the joke boys: within hours of Avid releasing PT 11 the ilok site that manages the licenses for ProTools has all but crashed. In order to run PT 11 you have to surrender the PT9/10 license and download the new PT 11 license to your iLok key. And guess what?: it lets you surrender the old license but loses connection when you try to download the new license. This means you're screwed and now can NOT run PT 9 or 10 or 11.Most every body is affected and its all over Gearsluts and Avid forums. Do yourself a favour and get a good bit of craiced software

The best thing that could happen is for everybody to trash ILock. Users should stop purchasing products that come with it. When sales decrease, audio developers will have to think twice before using this crap. It's just as simple as that!

And he's the real joke. After that they try to charge you $80 bucks for a new licence, then they try to tell you it's probably your ilok that is bad so pay another $80-125 for a new ilok.

I don't see why anyone uses pro-tools. Especially upgrades when they never really fix anything in the old ones. Still the worst midi editor in the world, but that is relative to their greedy customer support set up only to sell your more crap you already bought in the first place.

Anyway, wtf is avid's problem. It's bad enough your need a UAD to use pro-tools at all, but their ilok system has always been a scam. Let's see how many people they actually fix the issues for and how many they try to sell brand new ilok hardware and licences too claiming it wasn't their fault.

Also that "surrendering" old licences should be illegal. You paid for that licence and they decided "oh you got a new one so we're basically voiding your past purchase and making that original $300-500 on our old pro-tools worthless".

Do they at least give you an option to surrender your old licences or does it force you? Because if it forces you AVID is about to have a couple law suits on their hands.

    Xoso,

You are forced to surrender the protools 9/10 license for the protools 10/11 license.

    And btw:

Me 2 lost the protools 9/10 license during the surrender proces yesterday.
I immediately contacted ilok support and today they helped me for free (duh!) to get my protools 10/11 license to my ilok eden.

    But guess what ?!:

I installed protools 11 after succesfully loading the license to my ilok eden.
    Then i started protools 11.
it went through an authorisation proces (why??) and at the end it says protools 11 succesfully authorized but right after that an protools activation error.

    So i still can't use protools 11.

    Insane madness ..

If anyone of you own a motorized mixing board and you use it with pro tools you will find out the master fader lies dormant and will not work because it was made for the old hardware. then came HD9 and HD 10 claiming that now it will work with other hardwares and such...Bullshit they do some minor superficial changes and the real person who really did design the codes etc is out of bounds and they will not pay him to upgrade and they themselves are not capable and it would take too long...long story short my friends you have 'been scammed all along you just didn't see it ,,,for a very long time.

Dare I say... fuck Pro-Tools? And also fuck iLok? Don't need their crap. I can get everything I need done with "Cubase Classic" (AKA the 5.1.2 version), and Ableton. Maybe I will switch to Studio One eventually, and Bitwig might be a surprise. Don't need a damn thing in Pro-Tools. You Avid ripoff bastards. Do you know who Avid is? They bought up everything. They're a huge evil company like Microsoft and all these other NSA rat bastards. And those iLok people? They're like the fat, lazy inept mall cops of the computer world. "Hey you kids get away from there!" Why do people let themselves get trapped by these companies? Stay away from their drugs and you won't get hooked!

Avid is financially in trouble! Pro Tools is a thing of the past. It's on its way out unless someone else [with skills and resources] buys it. The ILock problem will make it even more difficult for Avid to keep PT alive.

Avid and Pro Tools is on their last leg. And now with this latest protection scheme, you just broke your own leg to stand on. Pro Tools was the standard years ago, but the competition is erasing them. Big studios can deal with this nonsense but music is coming from all points in between and its made on programs not dealing with ilok. Change the game Avid or keep suffering in your own fear of piracy instead of looking at it like this is a cheap way of marketing to all those have-nots, and not worrying on big timers. The playing field was evened years ago, anyway. My 2 cents well spent, no need to give me the change Avid, this ones on me.

I have an iLok. Are there things I shouldn't do? I haven't bought any new licenses so no need to go to their license manager site/app. I'll be fine right? :dunno:

Yeah I got the 9.5 Pro tools I bought and I'm fine. Just do not upgrade to 10 because I do not see any improvements worth a dime.At first when I ran it with my motorized board and my master fader did not work I thought all these terrible things that could be wrong with my system or maybe I didn't know what I was doing ...it was frustrating but what pro tools did not tell me is that it was made for their old machine which has 8 outs...so the master fader is on the last of the 8 faders same if you have 24 faders and one master (the master fader is inoperative. All the other studios work fine they are up to date. Pro tools said the person that did the coding and he is the one that new what he did they would have to get him to do it and that it would be too much because every thing had to be recoded from scratch so there you go...I do have the cubase 7.4 and I like it But I have sequoia that I did not pay for and I think that it ranks on top.The ease of operation and the Crisp clear Quality of it...Also the cheaper Magix products that I bought in the past are exceptional and had automation which cakewalk and others you would have to upgrade for more money. There is nothing wrong wiyh pro tools or the creator of it Rather it's the greedy bastards that own it and they probably stole it. Just like gates and you know gates was not the real guy who started or made windows...it seems that is the way the world was for a long time ..Some asshole takes, steals or buys something they have no idea about and try to peddle the stuff years later not knowing that technology keeps on moving.

    geez, what a joke!!!

In a related but not-related story, my friend updated his PS3 last week and the system update bricked his system (it has happened to million of others too with the last update)

    technology is fighting back!

iCockBlock and blow tools are irrelevant. Avid is behind anyways. Switch DAWS and produce with ALL of your plugs. Stableton 9 =]
