    Hi

Has anyone ever considered getting one of those ultra wide 49" curved monitors for your DAW / studio?

i'm kind of tired of my dual monitor setup, so i'm considering getting the curved 49" Samsung C49RG90, for some curious reason, i have seen no where or no one talking or using that monitor for music & daw except folks from the gaming flora & fauna where this monitor is pretty much praised.

So, I was kind of wondering if even this kind of monitor is any suitable for DAW/music production? and why shouldn't it be?

if anyone has already any experience with ultrawide monitors like these, let me know what was your choice and what monitor of that kind you are using, also tell me about pros & cons.

    thanks

I always wonder where people would place their nearfield monitors when buying display which spread the baseline of the speakers that wide.

I have a 32 in curved monitor and is better because 16:9 is better. The ultrawide is a joke 21:9 is hard to read text. 2560 x 1440 looks awful. I assume 4k is more resolution and more difficult to read text too.

For a probably 1/4 of the price, you could get a 4K 50" TV. with 40% more screen real estate.

I replaced my 5 year old quad asus monitors with a TCL 50" for 300$ and actually made money selling the monitors lol.

Look for one with 4:4:4 subsampling and capable of 4K 60hz. and make sure your system can drive it.

What ever size you get make sure it doesn't ruin your monitoring triangle. For 50" at a distance of 40" from the listening position worked out.

    Hi guys
    Well,after a while using it...I tell U...I don’t go backward!!!
For me,it is a perfect tool..if I remember well, one of the folk mentionned the model above mine...better resolution and more slots for USB C and others...if you can go for it,take this one ,not the model I took(which was the 1 st generation of Samsung in its kind).
I definitely do not regret my purchase....so convenient for my DAW.
For me ,it was one of my best purchase last year!

The Samsung C49RG9/CRG9 is very nice, probably the best super ultra-wide monitor around.
    The backlight is flicker-free(no PWM)!

But only five 4K(IPS/VA panels) TVs models are flicker-free(no PWM)!
    They are the Sony X850F/X830F/X750F/X800G/X850G

    Why PWM is bad

OLED models are also flicker-free, but using them as a computer screen will lead to burn-in problems.

Went with Viewsonics 38" curved set which went well within my listening area. Any wider and I would be turning the neck. The extra real estate is awesome. If you have the space I agree with MYCbeats, go for 4K TV. I stream an Alienware laptop to a Sony 4K 65". desktop, programs and 4K content looks stunning, as good as the Viewsonic any day. Good hunting, the 49" above looks pretty badass.

As long as the text is sharp (which it is with 4:4:4) I dont find it a problem - atleast for productivity work. Maybe if you're pixel peeping graphics work or gaming it can be distracting.

I want to get a new monitor too. Aiming for a 43 ".
Is the curve thingy really a plus, like if the screen if for audio applications only ? No video, internet browsing nor games. Just plain audio.

Yup, there never seems to be enough desktop real estate for DAW work. I got a dell ultrasharp 38 last year (v.nice btw) and then discovered i couldn't bear to part with the older 2 x 27" monitors, so i did this...

I also don white gloves and a crimson cape as i play these days.

I don't think this extreme 5120px ultra width would be useful at that point,
I do have 34" 3440x1440 which is 21:9 ultrawide and I feel it's the best compromise (I had 16:9 2560x1440 before), considering pixel density (scaling 100% no zooming nonsense like most 4K/5K retina stuff), physical screen size to look at (without my neck hurting of head movements), refresh rate (100Hz), slight curve feels natural and even when viewing from longer distace (2-3m) it doesn't distort the image, the triangle of sound monitors is just about okay (planning to completely redo the desk+room later this year, put them further and so on) - here's a pic of my 34" 3440x1440, along with my current 8" monitors:
