Well... You are both right.:) They are all playing "gimme some and i 'll give you some back".
With the original release of Win10 on Sep.2015, MS pretty much extorted OEMs to include exclusively W10 with their machines or else. With "else" meaning that for instance, an OEM like Dell should comply or else MS Office would cost "x" money for them, instead of "x" with a 40% discount for every 1000 copies. Don't get fixated on the numbers, i made them up, but this kind of practice (or should i say malpractice) is real and MS has used it repeatedly on numerous occasions.
Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer and the rest of the huge pc OEMs saw an opportunity to sell new pcs with the new os and why not, get those huge ms discounts as well, ironically even Apple started recommending W10 for their Bootcamp clients, so for all of them it was a win win. Seemingly. Because since Win10 day1, almost everybody started complaining, wanting to downgrade their machines. About 50% of the pcs bought with win10 between launch and Jan2016 were downgraded to Win7. At that point MS started a holy war against their own (win7) product lol. They even got Intel and AMD and all others like Asus (who is also number 6 pc OEM worldwide), MSI etc., telling lies that their new motherboards and chipsets were not compatible with W7 and only work with W10. Too many other similar examples which i won't mention for the sake of post length. At some point even suspiciously named "security updates" for Win7 started including "malicious" MS telemetry of the W10 variant.
But the public gets what the public wants and MS were obliged to comply with the public demand and extend w7 support till 2020. Which brings us to this day...
There is a repeating pattern here. You can notice clearly, vendors and MS are more or less in the same boat. MS is just a step ahead lol, leading the way to greed and corruption and "money under the table" practices (Intel too or worse but that's another story hehe).
    Cheers

I haven't read any further than your question as yet, so I'm sorry if you have already found out how to do it, but I would put the folders themselves somewhere other than the desktop and merely make the shortcuts to those files on the desktop. Then you can manipulate the folders exactly how you wish!

Ignore everything I just said. I should have known if it WAS possible.. Pirate would know how!!!!!

I see no reason to have a 64 bit version of Windows 7, then Windows 10 is a better option. Keeping an old pc with a 32 bit version of Windows 7 could be very useful. I used it not long ago when I wanted to transfer Mini-DV to pc through USB. Could only find 32 bit software to my old Camcorder with USB transfer possibility. So I had to use Windows 7 32 bit and it worked great. Tried it in Windows 10 with changing compatibility but it did not work.

Microsoft is like all your family - your children's families, aunts, uncles, newphews, grandparents, your friends and their families and friends - all moving into your home, house, cave or apartment without asking you or seeking your permission. And then ripping up your furniture and breaking your appliances.

    Errr you don't :winker:
Obtain a latest Win7 iso and screw any updates. If it's meant to be a workstation, try to keep it offline as much as possible. You might need to install the usual redistributables for soft/gui compatibility. Your favorite apps like Everything, Winrar etc., but no latest "security" updates, mostly all contain MS telemetry.
Now i know this is the Win7 thread but i gotta inform those who don't know yet: As of Win10 build 1903, any lite or custom Win10 iso installation, after a full update it will literally bring back everything that was turned off or taken out, that is back to vanilla Win10 state.
    Cheers

Just install Win 7 SP1 and do all your audio stuff offline OR if you can't do that, get yourself a good firewall AND a properly configured Hosts file. I suggest Windows Firewall Control (pre Malwarebytes if possible) in the bit depth for your system.

Note: Malwarebytes bought this firewall and are not known for their generosity
. They could pull the plug at any time and start charging for WFC, leaving you exposed.

WFC was developed by Alexandru Dicu and was completely free.

Windows Firewall Control is a powerful tool which extends the functionality of the Windows Firewall that comes with win 7 and provides quick access to the most frequent options of the Windows Firewall. It runs in the system tray and allows user to control the native firewall easily without having to waste time by navigating to the specific part of the firewall.

Yeah fuck MS. And for that matter fuck Apple too. They are perhaps even more guilty of throwing their loyal, ( and horrendously smug), user base under the bus. I've never and will NEVER use any "i" ANYTHING. That being said I run various legacy Win machines. XP , 7x86 and 7x64 because I have some excellent and expensive hardware and software that prefer those platforms. Of course, I also run Win10 machines as I need to stay current.....but it's all such a friggin' scam IMHO.

i could not install lite or modefied win7 iso on HP ZBOOK 15 (quadro k610 M ) , so i did use an old (my first )win7 iso and did tweak as much as possible afterwards bla blabla

but im an idiot not having untouched latest win7 iso
but i was in panic mode cause the uber pro bios of this zbook didnt let me install win7 first and i was freaked out so grabbed the evergreen after trying lites iso's (but its old and lacks some workflow and maybe video updates )
