Thanks for listening! Glad you kinda like it. Any more suggestions and/or tips?
Are you missing something or do you find some elements not so good?
How do you guys like it mixingwise?
It's the first time I used compression on subgroups and I kinda like the sound!

p.s. some people told me the snare is way too hard/harsh? I'm listening on Sennheiser HD-650's, could it be these headphones are too 'forgiving' in the high freq's? I recall it sounding fine too me...

Freq are a bit high with snare, maybe add some more mid / lower its level in mix a touch , but it sounds nice thru my phones

PS I notice the code goblins have been here again and not saying thanks :snuffy:

Thanks for listening bro, appreciate it!

Here's the list of things used in this beat:

Logic Pro 9 is my DAW
Logic's own channel eq and high/lowpass filter
    some SPL transient designers
for compression I used some Cytomic the Glue and some Logic comp's
for all my sub group compression I used the Glue and a Logic Multipressor
for the sidechaining of things I used Logic's own compressor
some Silververb and Softube TSAR-1 for my reverbs
Waves API-560 eq on my drumbus with some low freq boosting
last but least some Guitar Amp Pro for that effect on the guitar-like synth (it didn't sound like a guitar at all @ first LOL!)

my masterchannel has the Glue and Waves L2, matter of fact I just chose the 24-bit auto release preset and started mixing into it from start. I know some people say it's bad but it kinda works for me I guess... Happy to hear your take on this too guys!

Oh and across all channels + the masterchannel is Slate Digital Virtual Channel in SSL emulation mode for that haha... 'analog' warmth :P
It's a small difference, but if you listen closely you can hear it positively affecting your project. Sorry for the bad explanation, you should google it, great plugins!

p.s. someone already took it, but I think that person doesn't even have an account here, maybe I should do it different next time.

    hi,

cool track! its a keith sweat song :grooves: now a talkbox and it sounds perfect!
the mix is ok but the snare is too strong "harsch". on the second stop of the snare "long hall" or a drop is cool!
the song could get a part b-part...

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my thread, especially since it's ur first post!

will take the snare volume down a tiny bit and tame the higher frequencies that make it harsh, thanks for the heads up!
also i feel ya on that long hall @ the break, very simple but effective suggestion...
but how would you guys go about putting a talkbox in your songs? i only know it from zapp & roger, is there even a vst for it? it's controlled by breath and keyboard right?

...now lemme get keith on the line haha! *yes*

You definitely shouldn't mix through headphones, definitely not impossible, but definitely harder. Get yourself some krk rokit speakers, or get that Presonus VRM Box so your headphones are corrected.

Or you have to do a shitload of comparison to other tracks to make sure you mix right. Snare does cut through maybe a little too much.

Thanks for sharing your view with me, many people told me this also. I have KRK VXT-8's but I can't use it in my place, 1.) it's too small 2.) it's not 'treated' 3.) i can't turn up the volume
So now I let a friend use them until I find a place to make some music. Thanks for the heads up tho, will look at that VRM box, peace!

How do you layer your bass & kick ? it interests me ?
For me the kick is a little bit too much louder, but the layer of the bass sounds good.
also there is something (for me) which not sound good in your roll kick. (listen the roll of "john" lil wayne song's)
Otherwise your song is pretty good, and i agree with the idea of a talkbox :mates:

I would try mixing this kind of songs.
If if it does not bother you ?!
