have you tried running Finale in 32bit compatibility mode?

You should download Reaper (I chose it because of the small download size) and see if you can reproduce the same problem in that DAW but as I already stated a dedicated sound card will get rid of a ton of major headaches. Most on-board sound cards suck and even the good ones are spotty at best.

    @ Jonathan

Well, I finally got the asio driver to work in finale. It has mad delays. But, I still can't export to audio. Here is what the problem is, on my old computer which is a dell I bought in 2006, the onboard chip is sigmatel audio. I was able to export audio perfectly. I got a new computer in 2012 and the onboard chip is realtek hd. The playback is fine in finale, but when I click export to audio file, It will finish exporting all the way if the music is under 6 minutes long. Now if the music is over 6 minutes long, let's say a 20 minute symphony, it would export to around 6 percent. The program then freezes. It eventually finishes exporting, but the file becomes corrupted. The file would jump and fast forward when played. I need a sound card that would get rid of this problem. So far I am only using smart synth for the vst in finale. This problem occurs with all vst though, garritan, aria, symphonic gold etc. I have finale 2011 for windows by the way, there is no Play Finale Through Audio Units option. There is only play through VST.

    ok,

    now i understand,

keep the same settings that you used to export the song under 6 minutes,

for more than 6 minutes song and to fix that problem you have to export the wav to a different drive than the one that your Finale\Samples\Instruments are. *yes*

also, before export turn off autosave option.

let me know if it helped

Thanks, my finale always had autosave off. I never used autosave ever. I exported it to a usb and it worked. It still froze at 6 percent but it eventually finished and the file is uncorrupted and plays smoothly. Why does this happen by the way? On my old dell from 2006 which I had windows xp and sigmatel I could export into c drive without problems.

    glad it worked,

it´s not the sound card, probably the problem is win7 or win8 64-bit
(it can be a bug with win7 win8 with finale 2011 :wow: )
:excl: try to contact Finale creators :excl:
winxp allocates computer memory differently than win7 or win8 (different cache size)
xp allocates more memory to software than to the operation system,
and the memory that windows allocates to the operation system is called System Cache
when you deal with more than a 5, 6 , 7 minute song it requires more memory, and since it is rendering\reading the samples from the same drive that is exporting it runs out of memory (cache size of the drive or directory)
    thus corrupting the file.

i´m not an expert on this *no* , and with english words *no*
maybe some other member can explain you better.

anyway, you can have one drive for the system, and another to record export songs ( if you can afford it)

    :grooves:

there is a free tool that let´s you increase the system cache.

    Cache Booster

make sure you run this with admni privileges if you are willing to try it

Thanks for the help everyone, but I knew some other people who also had the same problem so they got a creative sound card and that fixed their problem. Are you sure the sound card has nothing to do with the problem?

When exporting files, it is the CPU that is doing all the work, check In Finale Preferences, folder locations for saving / exporting files, they maybe defaulted to the same folder and try changing one of them. Enjoy

in life we can not be 100 percent sure of anything,
but for me it looks more of a system problem, win 8 64bit with finale 2011

or win 8 64bit with realtek drivers(get the most current driver from RealTek and/or your computer manufacturer for Windows 8 x64).

did you install the latest finale 2011 manteinance updates?

    Updates

well, if you are going to buy a new sound card you can try it, and see if that was the problem.

if you can, borrow a sound card from your friends and you could test it as well before you buy a new one.

    all the best
