I think it'll be awesome to be able to mix your own music. It kinda goes hand in hand in my opinion. You can make it all one big process.

Trust me, if you concentrate on making music and hone your skills in that department your "mixes" will naturally sound better.
There's a reason professionals use other professional mixing engineers, it's not because they are rich and lazy either.

If you have a great song, it's a great song. Ozone, Waves, QuandaddaBaggage Loopy Limiter will never make it sound better.
Louder yes, clearer yes. But if it's a turd...

Makes sense. Are you a better mixer or producer/musician?

Musician, all I wanted to be. My friend always wanted to tweak in the studio, he's now a beast in the studio. Different paths n all.

Over the years I have naturally gained skills that allow me to mix as I go and get a good overall demo. But I still find when I go down the path of overly tweaking, cutting, filtering etc etc it's because there's something inherently wrong with the track. I go back, changed parts and add more ideas and 99% of the time that was the issue. If not, it gets binned.
Listen to most songs from the 80's back to 60's, to modern standards they are awful mixes. But they are still considered classics, best in their class. Why? Because they are still great songs. Songwriting is a big enough challenge on your journey, let that be your focus.

That's exactly my goal. Well, take out the awesome part... I'm a realistic person... lol
Amazing post in general, congrats. Useful, easy to read, compact.

That's my other goal. Always a pleasure to read your opinions, I can (and I've done) say the same good things about several of them as the ones used above for @Oddlaga 's.

How does this mix sound? If you're not going to be constructive with your criticism don't say shit, thanks because I know many people on this site are brutal. Focus on the mix fuck the genre or material.
