For Samson I can tell for sure: it's 50mm, it's an easy info to find.

That is unfortunate, i could tell You that Shure or Sennheiser or AKG is Great , but there are so many other Products on the Market , so that would be unfair and and not fit You at all in the end. Maybe try out one from the Sony shops then if the money is right there. The most important thing for me personally is that the Headsets i wear for 6-10 hours plus/minus making music, mixing etc. are comfortable, so u should hear everything but don't even feel that they are there.

Briefly, I'm always on a budget (basically, I''m a broke bastard,) but my lower-end AKG K240s do the job nicely, for the price. I need to sell an organ and get some Sennheisers.

For fairly flat studio purposes I grabbed a pair of Tascam TH-300X during a Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day. They have a 200X that usually goes on sale for $30 or even less.

. Have in mind, those pads on akg are very low quality, i think is the same material as pads from hd201(206), which will wear out very quickly- after a few months to year of daily use, you will need replace them. So from that perspective, samson pads seems more durable. Also pads itself on k52 are not deep. Depend on shape and size of your ears, they could touch inner fabric, which could irritate your ears.
As for help to finalise your decision, i can't really give you honest advice, as i don't own any of them. I can only advise you, not expect to much if at all, as those sennheiser are not bad at all. I know, i owned one. And about 10$ more will not give you night and day difference. But what you could expect compared to entry level sennheiser, is a bit more precise sound, higher volumes and less distortion at higher volumes, a bit more energy at low end and bigger and more precise stereo field.

Actually, when you think about it, you would end up with the exact opposite sounding mixes. Bright monitors/headphones=dark sounding mixes...

The tonal characteristics listed by me are already the opposite of the measured data of the headphones:winker:

I can recommend the Superlux HD-681 in combination with Sonarworks Reference.

Most the headphones you all mention are not available. Has anybody used Behringer HPM1000 or HPS3000. I need Sonarworks Reference compatible headphones - it gives a flatter response I heard.

    None.
I have a bunch of "low budget" closed and semi-closed headphones for tracking and Band rehearsals.

Superlux Hd 669, Samson SR 850, Presonus HD 7, Superlux 681 (which is, by the way, looking and sounding the same as the Samson SR850 and the Presonus Hd 7 - it seems to be (nearly) the same headphone) Audio Technica M30X. Why do I have so many you ask? Because of the build quality. They often break (cable) or a loose driver. Until I got time to repair them It is faster to buy a new pair of these cheap ones.

People tend to say theese cheaper headphones work, but to be honest they do not. Compared to the next level which I would say starts at around 90-130 dollars, there is a huge audible audio quality difference to theese cheaper ones. The resolution is so much better!
    The build quality too.
Save a bit more wait for a deal.

For tracking the cheap ones are fine the super lux HD 669 wins here in my collection because for the price it has really good sound canceling. It even works with a drummer well.

My favorite headphones are Beyerdynamic dt 990 pro (mixing) and dt 880. Got them for years. The dt 880 for about 8 years. I had to replace the earpads once, but they still work perfectly.

Yes, I got a pair for free. They are trash. Consumer quality, should not be labelled "studio".
