As you know after WWII, music was dominated by Grooves. I don't want to say, before that there wasn't groove-based music but after WWII, it overrode everything.

Groove hasn't added anything valuable to music except demoting all of its complexity and beauty and yet making it minimal and overly simplistic and paving the way for the dramatic entrance of incompetent people into creating music.

Are you able to remove Grooves from your music?:no:

So your thread title is a question, but then, by this sentence, you demonstrate that there is no question at all, you simply want to make public your own statement.
Which btw is totally wrong from the beginning:
Music didn't become dominated by groove after WWII , groove is into every ethnic music, and it's much probably at least as old as melody. Then in medieval music we can listen and dance to music that includes percussion, jump to another time, when Polka was one of the most danced groove.... I could go on and demonstrate that groove has always been here.

    Really George? En serio Jorge?
So Elvin Jones, John Williams, Clyde Stubblefield, Alex Acuña, and the list is extremely long have made music overly simplistic?
Or is it that your culture and or understanding of music does go as far?

Not to speak about "simplest" music genres that simply plays their role in the society, music is an art with thousands of forms that can co-exist without any problem.

Conclusion, you are stating like a truth something that only demonstrate your limited view of music and closed mind. Your statement sounds like elitism based on neo intelectual analysis.

Now if you excuse me, I'll go back to my bass, which is the bridge between groove and melody...
As for many things, it's not the ones that speak more about music that do it the most.

I think that art doesn't need hairs to be cut in four, just do what you feel and accept that others feel and do different.

    Confirmed...

In the beginning, there was Jack, and he had a groove all the way back then, so...

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

The only thing about right in the context of the op is that the word "groove" was used to describe the feel of a rhythm that can be perceived as "moving" in the modern age. As music's purpose is typically to "move" the listener's feelings, all genres contain a certain type of groove be it complex or simple, polyphonic or monophonic. But music without any type of groove is spineless. And a groove without much orchestration can still be enjoyable to the point of infectious.
The only incompetent musicians are the grooveless ones. The ones without the swing baby. Everything else can be learned but rhythmic feel and groove is something you either have or you don't. They call it talent.
But perhaps you are one of those who like to impose their defective rhythm mediocrity or inability as a strong point. You may even theorize there is no such thing as talent. But i digress, this last one, you 've said it before haven't you... Foster?

I think foster is on to something, a little bit. Most (all?) famed funkers knew how to play precisely. That included melody and groove. Neither was more or less important. There's no funk without octave skip, semitone down etcetc. No funk without groove. (I don't think bass is a mere bridge! =) I think that it is a good point that music is emotional mathematics. The two need to co-exist. I think this topic can best be described as "why has mathematics been taken away from music?" Which is a pretty good question.

I think the learning process is to enhance the given feeling, not to learn it.

I know of 'musicians' who have no groove or timing and their beards became grey, meanwhile. They will never 'learn' it.
