I needed a favor if possible.

could you please show me how you have your folders separated for

Software (for example DAWS, Synths, etc)

    and

samples (for example Drum Samples, Synth Samples or whatever)

i guess some will have it more general others more detailed....

but would help to also get the overall picture and help me save them also in more appropriate folders

    thanks for your help

I have a root SW folder in My documents drive
    # SW
    ## OS Tools (Ccleaner, same Windows ISOs, and the likes)
    ## applications (adobe, etc)
    ... more folders...
    ## VST (could be music)
in the VST there are the DAWs, Kontakt, MIDI virtual ports soft. Kontakt should be in the VSTI (later), but it's a particular case for me

    another root folder:
    # VST
    ## VST - for effects
    ## VSTI - instruments
    ## KTT - should be named intruments libs, but I started naming it KTT for Kontajt... I put here samples mostly, be it Kontakt, EZDrummer, Mdrummer libs. Not always can you separate the VSTI from the library
    ## RES - resources. Mostly: 3rd party stuff that doesn't come with the plugins/Daws. Reverb and Cab IRs, Presets/wavetables for synths, and so on. MIDI files, WAV files not belonging to an VSTi...

The ones I find the most difficult to classify: MIDI tools that doesn't come in VST format: Rapidcomposer, Sundog, things like that. Software that makes VST/VSTi stuff tipically connected to the DAW via midi virtual ports

    Hope it helps

    This is the root directory:
    folder.jpg

    1. Now 1st folder "Education" has all stuff related to music: Theory, Artist Tutorials, Mixing and Mastering Tutorials, FLPs, tips and tricks from reddit etc. I downloaded for later use.
    folder.jpg

1.a. In 2nd folder "FLPs" I have categorized all downloaded projects according to genre or YT channel:
    folder.jpg

1.b. In 4th folder "Videos", all of them have been categorized according to company name:
    folder.jpg

    2. Now out of the Education folder, my "MIDI" folder looks like this:
    folder.jpg

    3. Next is "Plugins" folder where I keep Installers, Kontakt libs, Omnisphere*, Spitfire LABS content, Licenses, Presets and Skins for installed plugins:

OK I cannot attach more than 5 pics in a single post, So...

    ...next post

    folder.jpg

The "Kontakt6Portable" folder contains a libraries folder where all libs I pasted.

3.a. The 1st folder "Installers" has all DLLs, setups, more folders:

    folder.jpg

As all free downloads are mostly in zip format and have only 2 files, namely 32-bit and 64-bit DLLs, I extract them into this folder directly instead of keeping them archived or creating a separate folder. If a plugins does require a keygen it is kept here and the generated licenses are kept directly into "Licenses" folder.

    3.b. In the "Presets" folder:
    folder.jpg

I know I need to move the Cthulhu folder to Xfer.

    4. The "Projects" folder contains all the shit I create. So no need to show

    5. I don't have a lot of samples, I recently deleted ones I almost never use. Here is how my "Samples" folder looks like:
    folder.jpg
I usually categorize all the samples in the 'SAMPLE_VENDOR - SAMPLE_PACK_NAME' format if I know who made the samples.

    6. "Software" has setups etc.

    7. In "Songs" mostly all songs are YT rips or NCS free downloads and there is a separate folder in it for acapellas.

    *R.I.P (deleted stuff)

I keep an exact copy of this same structure on my backup HDD, where all the older or unneeded setups (Sylenth1,etc.) and unneeded libs (Omnisphere) are kept.

@demberto organization is very good, in several things is different than mine, but this is only normal depending on your mindset and what kind of things you use for music.

Two drives are best. All your files and folders on one, software on the other.

    I have 4 SSD's,
the 1st for the OS, internet stuff, coding & gfx + 3D software, user profiles and portable apps,
the 2nd for music production (samples, VST's, projects, DAW's, presets and small vst libraries),
the 3rd for media (music, videos, downloads, virtual machines, coding stuff, tutorials and all of my kontakt libraries) and
the 4rth for installers (games, programs of all kind, android apps & backups)

The folders on my music ssd are organized like that:
    VST\32Bit
    VST\64Bit
    Programs\Image-Line
    Programs\Steinberg
    ...
    Samples\Instruments
    Samples\House Electro
    Samples\Abstract
    ...
    Projects\FL Studio
    Projects\Cubase
    Projects\Ableton

    etc.
And for my new PC there also will be a drive for games. My current machine sucks in performance for that

Yeah, I had a lot of stuff earlier and from the beginning I organised and renamed the stuff very properly so it would not cause problems in future. Only thing i need to do is organise the installers and vsts

Plugins inside Every daw i use are categorized by manufacturer.

Other than that, everything has it's own dedicated Hard drive:

    - Kontakt Libraries, Multiple Drives.
    - Samples, Dedicated Drive on a second machine shared Through Lan(because i ran out of SATA Ports and my motherboard has 10).
    - VST/VSTi plugins, Dedicated Drive (AAX/VST3 are in default location on my SSD Boot Drive).
    - Games, Dedicated Drive.
    - Plugins Databanks, like Superior Drummer, SS-Drums, Air Music, IK Multimedia, you name it, (Expect Kontakt) Have Two dedicated Drives.
    - Hell i even have a dedicated drive for downloading, extraction, Chrome, Torrents basically anything that comes through internet, and needs sorting out goes through this one.

Forgot this, VSTi Soundsbanks like Spire, Massive, Serum, Sylenth, share the Same drive with VST/VSTi plugins.

hope i didn't forget anything, and good luck.
