Somebody will find a way to block this feature one day after it's released. No need to panic.

There is a forceful and heavy invasion into privacy happening and here you are saying "dont panic". What lovely advice. Somebody will find a way to block it? You mean just like nobody found a way after several years to turn off the hidden OS on every newer Intel CPU? Do you even know about the hidden OS? Nobody was able to turn it off through hacks and its been known for years now. You really think Microsoft is stupid? They will find ways that cannot be messed with just as the hidden OS for instance operates completely independent from the main OS, hence cannot be messed with either. Nobody was able to even after years. Its a seperate closed system which is NOT part of the main OS. Dont worry be happy eh? Good luck with that friend.

No, people's fear was not just blind beliefs, but technical conditions that were not thought of before. Some important supply systems only knew the date of year 1999 until this time. There was no system date 2000. That's not a small problem. I don't think I have to tell anyone here what it means if an automated system that powers multiple nations with energy is no longer working properly. Of course, they had recognized the problem and fixed it in time.
Yes I know that. This is nothing new. It goes even further. In Germany, there are already contracts that assure the military access to smart devices in the private houses in order to protect the civilian population in the event of "imminent danger". What means "imminent danger" is not listed in the contracts. It is certainly not about Warez.
So yes, you are absolutely right. But anyone who uses Warez should not connect his PC to the internet anyway.
But Warez will continue to exist. And that's what this thread is about, isn't it?

So what? I wouldn't look down others just for knowing something we can't do nothing about and it's not the end of the world, although being of course undesirable.
There's OS spying since there's internet. Beta testers of Windows 95 were the first being blown up the ass lol
The only difference being Windows is the most used OS so we know more about it.

AMD have also that mini-OS BTW.

Never i will allow myself to treat others with "ignorants" without evidence, just because they disagree with my opinion, or are not as passionate as me.

The "intel hidden secret OS" rumor could be based AFAIK to 2 real, actual "things": (sorry in advance, my English capabilities are very limited, but i will try to explain the best i can...)

1°) There is since longtime, included in the BIOS of traditional (not UEFI) MBs, a maintenance software (or driver?) aimed mainly at big corporation, it allowed to remotely repair, administer and maintain big pools of PCs. This old piece of soft was outed by security-concerned people as a big piece of shit which could allow anyone who have physical access to the PC to gain admin privileges and so have access to everything on the PC which is non-encrypted, and it's a lot! This piece of shit, which have massively been used by "secret services" (NSA, DGSI... even FBI) is supposed to doesn't exist anymore in modern PCs (non-BIOS).

2°) So, what is this famous "hidden secret OS" in todays PCs? UEFI of course! UEFI can be considered in fact as a mini-OS, which can execute mini-programs and load drivers, but it is NOT hidden, if you are a minimum tech-savvy there's tools by which you can have access to it and even modify things if you want. Just read the wikipedia page, which will explain all this far better than i could.

There's also a third thing that i would like to talk about, it's the fact that processors (like any hardware internal or external peripheric, PCI cards, etc...) have a sort of "mini-bios" inside (NVRAM-like), this allow the system drivers to modify parameters... and correct bugs. Another source of vulnerability? Perhaps. But it will not prevent me from sleeping very well every night. (...et la sieste aussi, peuchère ! :guru: )

Yes, the first ugly thing discovered was concerning only the UEFI. But that mini-Os was introduced at the same time, under US regulations both on Intel and AMD. That mini-OS is in the CPU level (of course, in a UEFI mobo).
But it is not easy to disable it. To modify something perhaps. In fact, there are loads of bricked CPUs of people that tried to disable it.
I once watched a video of a security company guru that succeeded and it's insanely difficult.

Found an article on ZDNet. It explains things far, far better. I was searching desperately the name of the maintenance shit hidden in some old mainboards: Thanks to this article, we now know that It was called "ME" or "IME", as Intel Management Engine.

EDIT: here is the wikipedia page about IME.
And about the famous hidden OS, it appears to be a crippled version of MINIX. What a surprise!

...but i'll keep on sleeping very well.

    1. The fact that Microsoft has filed a patent for software authorization does not mean that it will be used by every software company.

    2. Just because a patent has been applied for does not mean that it will be used in general.
There are countless patents that have never been used in this form.

We've been flooded so heavily with schizophrenic conspiracy theories from people with an agenda and panic mongers that we don't know who to believe, or bother checking for "the truth" when everything on the internet can be fake, because some of us actually have a life. However, so far Microsoft or Google have not attempted to blackmail me with my porn search history, so I'm not going to panic and run away from everything proprietary to my digital bomb shelter. But, I guess if being "woke" makes you feel in control, go ahead.
