Room will be untreated....im leaning towards yamaha 7 or 8s, but i am open to any recommendations or wisdom. Also should i wait until Black Friday? I was considering going the used route but i figure there might be some big sales for black friday where i could get some new. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Presonus Eris E8 are Great .... maybe not for every room (If your room is less than (untreated )25m²/269ft²) the E5 are maybe better

With the reflection of bass it can become pretty messy special with an untreated room.

Some basstraps in DIY are easy made project

which helps a lot if your room is untreated and small

Old audio engineer rule, half the budget in monitor, half in room treatment.

I have the Eris-E8 and I'm happy with them, and I agree with @Polomo some bass trap will help you especially if your room is small.

Yamaha HS8 have rear-firing bass ports compared to front-firing bass ports on Presonus Eris E8 - this makes a big difference especially if you plan to have them placed closer to walls or corners, and generally front-firing bass port design will be more forgiving in not-so-well-treated room

nice. I have looked and there are some that are way below retail too. I also saw that they have a bundle with the 2 5' monitors and an 8' sub. Anyone tried that out?

Roughly How much money on material would it be to build 4 of those traps?

    I do have also the Eris E5 - I gotta admit I like their midrange more (for acoustic music or dialog editing), right now I have them hooked at my TV because take take less space :D Eris E8 sound better to me overall, bass response is obviously better - for what I need (no bass heavy music), I'm not considering additional subwoofer yet;

for your use, I'd say E5 + sub is an interesting option, BUT in that case you'd better take a look at 10" Presonus woofer to match E5's,
be aware regardless of speakers/sub choice, you should plan some room treatment (I have none so far, but currently experiment with room "correction" software and measurements, they already provide relatively good results, and my laziness to create some proper bass trap panels....)

i know people slag off KRK`S but i love them ( for my setup ) the layout of your room will be a factor, i have the RoKit 5`s and depends on your needs they are good enough, for the price anyway in my opinion

(If your good nothing, there are always ways to recycle everything, an old couch would give most things you need)

It heavily denpends on size of the basstrap and country your living in

In my county prices are more or less for this project :
    1 bass trap

    6 m slat wood = 3 €
    1 m ³ stonewoole 5 €
    50 - 100 staples = less than 1€
    some screws = 1€ - 2€
    2m ² Moloton Fabric = 5-10 €
    1-3h work time = Priceless

In total less than 20 € for one

I'm in a very similar situation, and I'm considering the Kali 6 or JBL equivalent. Anyone have experience with these monitors? How do they compare? I've heard theyre very similar, and I can get them very cheap nowadays. My room is hard to treat for bass due to awkward door and window placements, so I don't think I'll be getting 8" monitors.

    Two viable options:

    1. Wait a year till you save up about $2,000, and get something that will actually inspire you to hear sounds through it.
    2. Buy yourself a used pair of KRK VXT 8 about that $500-800, and start producing.
