Nice top and middle. Not much in the low end. You need to pair them with a decent set of headphones to check the low end. A sub8 wont do much difference. Good value for money.

I've got a pair of A7X for more than 5 years, very accurate speakers for the mids and low-mids. They lack a little bit in the low-end, but transients are extremely precise in the 100Hz-200Hz area, which helps a lot in the mixing decisions.
The highs are good, but in my opinion (and many others, as i found after making some research some times ago) the highs are very fatiguing, not a good thing if you plan to work several hours a day, nor if you like to listen to your music loud. I've came to a point where it was almost difficult for me to work at a decent level... I wish somebody woud have tell me that when I chose to buy the Adam, because it really is essential.

PS: I ended getting the APSKlasiks last year, which are in the same price range, and IMHO really better than the Adam. Low-end is magic and starts at 37Hz (I hear subs like i never have), and, while extremely accurate too; they are way less fatiguing.

Errr... My experience is that low end is VERY detailed and accurate. Tight. A7X's are one of the most loved monitors in the world. You just need proper room acoustics/calibration, like with any nearfield monitors.

Paul White reviewed them in 2010, and it still stands today

Do you own the A7X,or do you use them every day?
Because I agree with Cαig Lαтsoи ,the low-end, low-mids are not that top accurate. But it's relative of course. They are great monitors for $1000/pair.
I use them since long years,I don't remember how many but minimum 7 years.

I used them for 5-6 years untill last year in larger (25 m2) space and they were my main monitors. Then I moved my studio in more convenient and smaller space (16 m2) where A7X's were a bit overkill. Changed my monitor setup for a pair of A5X + Adam Sub 7 which is what I'm working on today.

Like I said, my experience with A7X was really great but of course it all depends on your setup, space, style of music and "feel" what you're up to :winker:

I was thinking about adding a Sub8 to my A7X but my room is small, around 15 m2.Do you think I would get some benefit with a Sub8,in terms of clarity in the low end, with a crossfader around 90 or 100Hz?
I find some "rumble" in the 50-200Hz range with the A7X.

  9. I’ve had mine just over a year and use them every day.

    Good points:

    Extraordinary stereo definition
    Exacting top end
    Can be run very loud

    Bad points:
Bottom end at 42Hz. If you need more get a sub or another speaker.

Wouldn’t change them unless I came into mega bucks. All speakers are fatiguing if you’re listening too loud.

    Essential knowledge:

  10. What would your neighbours say? Generally you need to run Subs hotter the smaller the space is because you lose resonance. Try using ARC2 (from the sister site) with a Behringer (cheap as) test mic first. You may need to tame the top end. ARC will show you where the problems are, and you can prescribe a treatment then.

I think yes. Adding Sub 7 to my A5X was like drawing last stroke on beautiful painting :) In your case, Sub 8 is perfect match for A7X.
My crossover is set to around 75Hz and volume is at -30 to -35dB. What I like the most is that this setup takes the load off satellites on low end and rounds up whole sound picture on another level.
You have wide variety of tweaking at disposal. Of course, I must add that room acoustics should be done nicely to get the best of it

P.S. Like @Fudsey Plange said, listen at moderate level to avoid fatigue.

I used them for about 4 years while working out of someone's studio. I wasn't a big fan. They sounded like Hi-Fi speakers to me. Not good for making accurate decisions when equalizing or even tweaking certain FX parameters, in my experience. I sometimes found myself feeling confused while using those speakers, when instead I wanted to feel confident in my choices.

The bass is enough if you have a properly treated room but of course depends on what kind of bass stuff you like to mix :)

Some A7x have problems with portnoise and ringing of the internal components.
I send mine multiple times to Adam to fix issues, even after 5 Years !
    Still not perfect but ok.
Another alternative might be the Fluid Audio FX8 but beware to try the new revision, the first is noisy

Before getting a SUB I suggest rather to acoustically optimize your room.
NO foam ! build basstraps, superchunks

My room is treated. If you want to control frequencies below 42hz (hell, 50 even) they are of no use. But it's a great pair of monitors regardless - I just wanted to mention that if you want to control anything below 42hz it should be paired with a good set of headphones. I use ADAM monitors myself.

Hey mate. I like 'em a lot. I think they are one of the 2-3 most honest pairs at the 1000-1100 euros price range. I also like its sort of sibling the HEDD Type 07 although a little bit more expensive. The other pair to consider imho, is the Focal Shape 65 in this category, afaik they are about the same money as the Adams, Focal's strength should be its extended bass range, the passive radiator and its ability to be placed directly in front of a wall due to the -by design- lack of a rear bass port. I also like its little treats like how you can adjust the height in its legs better adjusting it to your listening curve like here :

    Back from work.

Thanks for all the feedback! A true privilege to be a member here :like:

I´ll read all comments this evening and make my final choice if I buy a pair of these monitors.

If you like ribbon tweeters go for the Eve Audio SC207. I tried the A7X and the tweeter sound much separated from the woofer, not very natural highs and a little fatiguing. Now the Eve are just smooth and clean with very good low end for a 6.5 woofer. I`m happy that i changed from the Adams.. just my 2 cents.

You can't define transient response in one specific frequency range. Transients exhibit components from the entire frequency range, not a select few. Plus it's also dependent on the gain, as you increase the volume the quality of the response will reduce.

Transient response typically falters when frequencies fall below a specific range. In the case of Adams (at 85dB SPL) they have an excellent response down to about 64Hz where it slows down because they sacrificed said response in order to increase bass presence. This is an inevitable trade-off on smaller nearfield designs that exhibit a low bass presence.

Nevertheless, it really isn't worth asking anyone to recommend speaker monitors because, without incredibly accurate, expensive and time-consuming measurements taken in the room that the speaker monitor is situated, you'll only receive qualitative and subjective nonsense.
