Same here! It's nice and a little funny to read this.. Great!

Because me too: Cubase since Atari, ages ago. I feel sooooww old, but I just started out when I was so young. (haha)
After that for years and years Cubase 2/SX/5.1/7.. etc. I rewired Tascam Nemesys GIGA Studio, Reason and Sonic Foundry/Sony ACID etc for a while, years ago.

Live on stage I always and still use Ableton Live. If you ask me, it's still the best DAW for those things.

    NOW?!
Somehow somewhere along the line I stumbled upon Studio One. Since then I slowly stopped using Cubase, except when I had too. Not that there's anything wrong with Cubase. Studio One somehow inspires me more now. It has a lot of great possibilities. And I still haven't come across any real limitations. Maybe because over the years I traded all kinds of hardware for software.

I've got a working Cubase 10 version since yesterday.. I am surely gonna give it a try..

I've been planning to give Reaper a try for a long while now. I like the way it seems to be customizable. I can write some code myself, so maybe Reaper is a DAW for me too check out. I would like to write my own actions.

Pro-Tools... no! When I really have to.. I only use it too load tracks that I right away export as they are, to import them in Cubase or Studio One. And when I'm done, the other way around. I just don't like it.. I can't stand the 1998 GUI. And that with every new version the performance is worse and worse.

Those who are able to understand the power that Reaper gives you will find it really hard using some other DAW afterwards. Reaper is not just a DAW. It's an audio OS within the OS.

I don't think it's perfect, but it's at least developed extremely openly. What I'm talking about is that you can have 3 computers running Reaper on 3 different OSes, all "talking" to each other and working together with some additional latency, but still... no other DAW can do that. Also, the routing is just so good and flexible in Reaper that I find most of the other DAWs laughable when it comes to routing.

But I'm not saying every other DAW is shit. If you find the workflow fitting your needs in some other DAW or audio program that can use ASIO, you can always route it easily into Reaper through either ReaRoute ASIO or ReaStream VST plugin. :) Show me some other DAW that can do so much stuff, especially for the price. For me these things are priceless. Since I'm OS agnostic kinda, I hate Windows the most, but I like its [XP-W7] efficiency when you "tame it", it's still the best for audio and video editing.

Used Ableton for 10 years. For the past 2 months, i decided to start fresh and learn a new DAW.

    - Tried Cubase: Liked it but CPU load could be lower compared to other daws.
    - Tried Studio One 4: Loved it. Drag&drop heaven, vivid colors, CTC-1 summing. What's not to like?
    - Tried Reaper: Spent the entire day watching tutorials. Now i'm hooked and can't seem to use anything else.

OP should have added to his question for which kind of music.
EDM producers will not use the same DAW than Rock bands !

I am a techno producer and I use Reaper, Ableton, Logic and Studio one, mainly Reaper.
Each has is advantages and drawbacks and I think it is a good idea to works with different DAWs in order to find new ideas, new working methods, new inspiration...
Reaper is my favorite but sometimes I feel like a beta tester, there are some annoying bugs.

I agree with you. I wasn't going to reply to this thread for that very reason, considering that my full-time job is as a live musician, not a 'dance producer'. Having said that, I have been using FL Studio for ages. I know that it is mostly seen as a looping DAW, but I use it to record backing tracks, and I can't complain about what it does.

Is that right? You have your own DAW? So you are a programmer?

Ableton live for life!!!!!! Love Reason(my first daw), Cubase(looks great), Logic(I still use Logic from time to time), never used Studio One but hear its awesome, Acid(tried it once and deleted it immediately), Bitwig(in the process of learning it now i have to admit they have better editing tools than Ableton). I love almost all the daws I've ever used but fell in love with Ableton.

Regarded as an instrument rack - no, it's great! Regarded as a DAW - yes, it is in the crawling age and must first learn to walk!

Ableton is my baby but I use Pro Tools for tracking because of the playlist feature. But as soon as I can I get the f out of Pro Tools and back into Ableton.
