In my experience, Logic feels more CPU efficient than Studio One to me. If I change the number of threads in Logics preferences from "Automatic" to "8 Threads", the load is distributed pretty evenly over these 8 threads.

Distribution over cores is no issue, the bottleneck is still that one track. I can bring down logic with just one instance of alchemy for example. Logic won't spread the load across the cores.

Ahh, ok. I've tried comparing the way Studio One 4.5 spreads the CPU load for Serum, but Studio One's performance monitor does not show single cores just an overall. Can I change that somewhere?

not that I know of , that would be the ultimate performance monitor:
The core overview from Logic and the details list from Studio One

I just installed Windows in Parallels Desktop.
Guess what, Studio Ones GUI is even faster than native under macOS !

    :woot:

Do you see how the Impact GUI is nailed to the mouse pointer under Windows while it is lagging behind the pointer under macOS.

And that's just one plugin. if the project grows dragging the mixer windows gets a slideshow under macos

Did you install it as main operating system or is it on VMware or Virtual box?
BTW, if you know a proper way of installing Hackintosh on VMware I would be glad to know it since I wanted to test some stuff too!

Looks like the framework they are using works better on windows.

hmm, I am not sure, I am also using hackintosh i7 4790k on Mojave with GTX760 (natively supported) and I've didn't notice any performance downsides on S1, compared to windows, although grpahically it does seem less "fluid" than Windows version (I also have Macbook Pro and it acts the same like hackintosh).
I've also tested S1 on OSX vs Windows with same settings and same VSTis (2 separete tests with Diva and ANA2) playing 5 note chords and testing how many times I can duplicate track with instrument until system starts hanging/crackling with same buffer settings.

I was surprised by results as in OSX I could have 2 more instances of Diva and 4 more instances of ANA2 compared to Windows results.

After that I've tested it against Logic and S1 was better, again.
Logic interrupted playback without crackling with 56 tracks of ANA2 showing system overload message, although CPU meter wasn't at 100% and 8th CPU core was almost fully available. S1 managed to push 62 tracks of ANA2 and started crackling on 63rd instance.

Then I've tried Reaper and was really surprised - it could play only 52 tracks without problem, and that's strange considering its reputation being lightest DAW on CPU.
Sorry for little OT about tests, hopefully it will encourage people to their own tests and check it.

    Regards :).

it is NOT about crackling and performance (CPU) , it is just about the freaking slow GUI of S1 under macOS. Compare dragging 3rd party plugin windows and how they lag behind the mouse pointer under macOS

seen the videos I posted ?! Or the thread at the official Presonus Forum?

    ;)

If you like remote desktop like performance (with bad connection) OK good, if you prefer a fluid GUI..., use Windows with Studio One :)

....and this is just a fact no fiction. Try it your self.

    Regards :).
