I used to have a imacmini 2012 that i used logic on for a bit. the only problem was heating problems when running heavy sessions. the problem wasnt crucial, just "hey its not nice its so hot"

the speed was slower, but everything worked out. have a macbookpro 2013 now tho, upgraded with a SSD drive after a few years. everything works fine. its not a beast, but it has more than enough.

main workstation is a pc tho. "selfbuild" for cheap cheap cheap. it can even make coffe for yah!
with that said tho. i'd say, you should for spend way less than 5k on whatever brand laptop pc and save the remaining money for anything else (soundcard?, headphones?)

too expensive to keep staying on mac, they are all around build on bad parts and low budget model of everything inside them. they want consumers as costumers. not "pros" that want quality and bang for thier buck :)

Ok after so much off topic it is my turn :)

I wish Microsoft finally concentrate on fixing and improving Windows than adding useless features as reported on their insider blog.. (Introducing the ability to move the Cortana window. yay)

If you decide to go the Windows route , I suggest that you buy parts which are compatible with macOS, that way you could use both OS.

If you wanna buy a mac, just buy the mac with:
    • newest fastest CPU and
    • fastest FSB and the
    • fastest RAM,
    • most RAM expandability
    • biggest fastest newest SSD drive
    • best video card
    • best screen.

and then just use whatever DAW works with the latest operating system and you're good to go.

You knew you'd be starting another platform war with this one...

Several people have said that macs are overpriced crap - I agree that they are overpriced, especially since the modern versions of the MacOS are a shadow of the rock-solid versions of the past (*I miss you, Snow Leopard*). But I don't agree that they're crap. If that's the platform you're used to, swapping platforms in any direction is a huge undertaking.

My primary music platform is a 2013 27" iMac, and it's pretty solid. I did lose the internal HD last year - it was a fusion drive and the SSD portion is still intact cause those puppies just don't die, but the HDs commonly do by this point, a 125GB startup drive makes you rely pretty heavily on symlinks to an external drive. The newer OS versions slow down older macs, especially graphics, and the graphics cards in pre-retna macs are mostly not that powerful, so I would definitely stick with Sierra at the very latest. It may restrict you from latest versions of certain SW (I use 10.3.X for Logic), but it's worth it for the greater speed and reliability. Def fill it up with 32 GB of RAM - much faster, esp for sample-based instruments.

I agree, „what you are used to“ is a big part of the equation. Thx for taking the time!!

Check it out man. There is 100 reasons why to buy a PC over a Mac, There are 100 reasons to buy a Mac over a PC.
Its really just what side you wana roll with bud.
Im a recent convert. I used PC for probably 20 years and this last year bought my first mac.
Besides not being able to get the Newest DL's from Sister site cause WIN gets everything a lot faster.
Im in love with my mac.
    i have a 2017 27in i5 nothing fancy
but upgraded ram to 24gb rite now i think (the 2017 have easy access to ram to swap)

The performance compared to my i7 PC with equal ram is not even in the same ball park.
One of my heavier VST I liked to use was Abbey Roads Reverbs I use to get 2 and if i all my other vst were not mixed down or disarmed I would lag out hard.

now i have not lagged out.. once, ever. if i did it was a fluke, i press play and it doesn't happen.

PC's are making great advancements i hear. but i dont think i will ever go back,
The longevity of mac lets me know this computer im on now will get me thru another few years before i have to upgrade..

i like the analogy of PC to MAC like Harely Davidson vs indian

if you wana tinker, You like customizing every piece of your bike, always working on it you get a harley (PC)
if you just wana jump on an ride you get a Indian(MAC)....

2ndly with the mac if you have some programs you just cant live with out there are TONS of ways to use PC programs on MAC . one called Wine is a huge part of im sure a lot of us mac users daily use and it creates small virtual pcs to run .exe and do other stuff lol

Also although it runs a little flunk you can run Windows 10 on MAC now pretty easily.
I tried for a bit it was kind of novelty i just put everything back to mac.
You really get used to the launch pad or using shortcuts quick . "pffft what start menu"

oh yeah.. No viruses or at least VERY VERY hard to get is insane now that i think about it..
Mac + CleanMyMacX= Problem free music making

The first day I got my mac i went to install my DAW.. I was just it pure shock how fast it was.. its that much of a difference.

Yes, you can buy a mac, but eventually, with ANY mac, you will get a problem that can't be fixed cheaply. Just get a PC, or hakintosh.

I managed to get myself a mac pro 2012 with 64 gb ram 12 core (3.Xx ghz) for 400 bucks (whatever that means)...Works pretty damn good for what I use (Logic Pro X, Premiere & After Effects). Anyway I think you can pretty much use anything these days they’re all powerful at this point.
